Tyrell Harris doesn’t know much about Tennessee, but he will after this weekend.
The cornerback from Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pa., said he will take an official visit to UT this weekend.
Harris said he knows very little about UT’s program. So far, he said his information has come from secondary coach Larry Slade.
“He told me about the educational system and the mentoring programs,” Harris said. “He said UT is like a family.
“I don’t know too much about the school. I want to come and see firsthand for myself.”
The 6-foot, 185-pound Harris said UT is his leader. He’s also received scholarship offers from Syracuse, Akron and Buffalo.
Harris said he has received interest from West Virginia, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State, but he’s still waiting on an offer.
Harris said his interest in UT has been strengthened by his relationship with Slade.
“He keeps it real with me,” Harris said. “He doesn’t sugarcoat it or anything.”
Harris said he doesn’t know what life would be like in the Southeast, but he said distance won’t be a factor in his decision.
“I’d like to be as far from here as possible,” said Harris, who declined to comment further.
Harris said one of his best attributes is his potential. He said he has only two years of playing experience, which he believes should leave plenty of room for growth.
“It shows that I could get looks (from colleges) from just two years of playing,” he said. “With the right training I could be something.”
Harris will be making his first official visit this weekend. Although UT is his leader, he said he doesn’t plan to rush into a commitment before he’s ready.
“I want to make sure I make the right choice,” he said.
