Tennessee has signed a contract with Kansas for a home-and-home men’s basketball series.
Tennessee will travel to Kansas and play at Allen Fieldhouse next December. The Jayhawks will play at Thompson-Boling Arena during the 2009-10 season.
The Vols and Jayhawks have never met before.

Absolutely terrific news... if we want to be an elite program, we have to play the elite programs.

AND How about a home and home with Arizona. That way I could watch my Vols out here

Tony Jones tried getting a home and home series for this year with G'Town, Duke, and Cincinnati. They all three turned us down! Duke doesn't wanna play us at TBA.

It seems like we go on the road first in most every home and home we play. It doesn't really matter I guess, it's just strange. But the multi-game contract with Memphis, and home and homes with Texas, Oklahoma State (technically neutral sites), Ohio State, Gonzaga, Xavier, and now Kansas have all started on the road.

Thought that way about Ohio St last year, VolnAZ. Tickets were gone as soon as they went on sale. Still trying to get Xavier tickets though.

If you take a look, BP times most of these "name" games to our benefit in one way or another. Kansas loses 6 seniors this year plus the possibility of Brandon Rush and/or Mario Chalmers going early to the draft. Who knows what will happen but I think Kansas will be reloading but struggling next December and we can take an experienced team into Allen Fieldhouse and get a W against a "down" marquee team for our tourney resume. Don't forget we will also get a match-up with somebody in the SEC/Big East thing next year and given where we should finish this year it will be another marquee opponent (Pitt, GTown, Nova possibly). Add Memphis plus the return match with Zaga and that schedule is pretty well loaded.

Oh and by the way, UNC, Duke, UCLA and Kansas have EARNED their "media darling" status. We'll get there in time too but for now we have to earn it the same way they did - beating people and collecting rings.

TD: We only lose one that matters - Lofton. Not taking anything away from Jordan Howell but he is easily replaced at the point by either Ramar (if he doesn't transfer and gets his head straight) or JP. J. Smith is also easily replaced. I really don't know why folks continue to concern themselves with this team and the NBA - NONE of them are even close to NBA ready (and only 2 ever could be). Just go down a list of the last 5 NBA drafts and look at all the names that you would have loved to have when they were in college that never made a NBA roster. Also keep in mind that only 1st rounders get guaranteed money so going early is a huge risk unless you're a certain lottery pick. Being a 2nd rounder is almost worse than being a free agent in many ways. Either way, I would just like to see this team come together and start playing the way they can.

If memory serves me the "media darlings" mentioned above have garnered about 20 NCs and 60 Final Four gigs. And how many NCAA Tournament games have we played to date?. I also believe Pearl has Tennessee headed in that direction but like E.F. Hutton we'll have to earn it and it will take some time.

actually, the Xavier game was here first. We are just now getting around to playing them in Cincy....

Ah that's true on Xavier, I guess I was subconsciously blocking out the Buzz Peterson era...

Glad to see the tougher schedule, I believe the easier schedule that we've played up to now (except for Texas)is one reason we haven't seen the improvement that we had all expected. When we get into the SEC schedule I believe this team will wake up and start playing like they are capable of playing. I just hope we don't lose too many games before then.
