Tennessee football players will receive $1,200 to cover travel expenses for the Outback Bowl against Wisconsin on Jan. 1 in Tampa, Fla.
Players are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the bowl site each year.
Bolden Misses Practice: Starting defensive tackle Demonte' Bolden missed practiced in order to take care of an academic obligation.
UT coach Phillip Fulmer said he expects to know if any players will be ineligible for the Outback Bowl by today, UT's final day of practice before breaking for the holidays.

$1200? Not bad when the average flight costs $250, assuming they don't drive. Wish I had that kind of extra spending money when I was at UT.

Wonder if any of them know they can fly allegiance air out of Chattanooga to Tampa roundtrip for $100?? That's what the story in Chattanooga Times Free Press said anyway. It also flys to Daytona and Orlando!
FWBVol writes:
VolCR, you are assuming about Bolden, it said an academic obligation. Granted it sounds like what you are implying, but maybe it isn't nearly as bad as you are thinking.
Some of the players will drive to Tampa, and others will fly. There is a complicated formula that the NCAA uses to figure out how much money a player receives for travel expenses to a bowl. If Erik Ainge is flying out of his hometown in Oregon, or Arian Foster is going from San Diego to Tampa, of course it will cost a lot more than say Eric Berry going from metro Atlanta to Tampa or a kid from Florida making a short drive to the Tampa.
The travel expenses are only part of it. The KNS reported a few days ago that each player is allowed to receive a hospitality/goody bag from the bowl that is worth $500. THis is another reason I don't think college football players should be paid. I believe the cost of an education, if the athlete takes care of business, is far more valuable than whatever dollar value some people want to slap on what a player is worth.

Dear LazyUTDeltaDeltaDelta, before you spout ignorance and stupidity, why don't you check out your facts. Every school provides per diem and transportation money to their football players for bowl games. Since football is the largest and most visible program of all of our athletics and since we published this information in the KNS, do you really think this is an NCAA violation. Perhaps since you paid more to tridelt than they paid to you, you feel an obligation to be negative about this.
To Volcr, yes exams were over last Thursday and grades were due this week. However, you don't know if Mr. Boulden received an I for a class or something. There are always reasons why a student may be working on some academic obligation after the "end" of the semester!

I just wish them a safe trip and a great outing. Things are churning in Knoxville and I hope we can concentrate on the Badgers. Balance their $1200.00 against what it costs to get the Tenn "official" party to the game.
Believe it or not, the Badgers plan on kicking Tenn's a##. Articles on madison.com like "Not so good Rocky Top", etc. show no respect. We need to earn some national respect back with a convincing win. Not to mention helping out the restless natives such as wah! Go Vols.

I just hope the remainder of the $1200 doesn't end up spent at Mons Venus.

VolCR, your constant negativity is tiring. Hundreds if not thousands of students each term need extra time to finish projects and such and most of them aren't scholarship athletes. It's no big deal, really. Give it a rest.

Heck I just wish all the athletes had the free time that a regular student has. I also wish that when regular student screws up (DUI,Fights, academic casualty etc. )that their name would be pasted all over the newspaper, ESPN, news, and radio outlets for people to smear.

John you are correct. VolCR is a jerk by most people's standards, like his/her "Yawn". The best way to treat him is the way you do a small child that is a brat, just ignore them. I normally just don't read his/her, don't really know the posters sex, and a few other posters comments because they are always going to be negative about any issue to do with UT without any constructive change provided. And I'm not a polly anna. We have many problems, but until I can provide a positive soluation I will not play the game of ripping people or the school apart from behind a posting name. To All including VolCR I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Lazhil may be a Delt, but not at Tennessee for sure. Have there ever been Delts at UT? Don't think so. Bama maybe, Florida possibly. Maybe he is Touchdown Tennessee's all knowing nephew who goes to Gatorland?
bernardking writes:
I have always known VolCR knows very little as to what he speaks. As an university administrator, I know for a fact there are numerous, legitimate reasons why a student may be on campus AFTER exams to complete an academic obligation.
This is REALITY, VolCR. Another reality....Bolden may still be a bit young to be a real leader;however, it is certain you have never been nor ever will be a leader.
bernardking writes:
LOL.....I do have fun and fortunately I do not have to do any of things you mentioned. You're right, I don't know you and may have jumped to a conclusion about you based on reading a few of your posts. You seemed pretty

LazhilUTDelt, all schools pay this to their athletes for bowl games. Read slowly again, ALL SCHOOLS pay this allowance. Get your facts before you post. And VOLCR, why spew nothing but negativity all the time on this site? I have read hundreds of your posts over the years(?)and you are truly a foul person. Lighten up, man.

Hey jwraymond I knew you'd come out of hiding to lick on VolCR's teet regardless of his perceived witt it is funny and also quite sad that he/she has come up with every single one of your posts. Do you have any original ideas of your own or are you a puppet. And Lazydelt, people don't put you down just because of your posts, but because of the ignorance they exude. If I am correct you are the same idiot that hypothesized that T. Taylor wasn't offered the OC job because he was black... Just use common sense and intelligence when posting and then you'll atleast have a base from which to argue. I can't stand CR but atleast shim has original ideas no matter how warped they may be.

Agree that "thousands" is quite an exageration unless TN7275-90120 meant thousands across the nation or world. Personally, I had an "I" once because I missed an exam due to a death in the family. Made it up a week later. I know of others that had major project reports (grad students especially) that were bound over to the following term. I know Bolden is not a grad student and I don't know if he had familial complications, but I do know some professors allow extra time for certain projects.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
When I said "thousands need extra time", I didn't mean that they were all on campus finishing up. I meant that lots of them, as others have said, were probably getting an "I" for a class by not finishing up on time. Football players have to complete so many credit hours each semester to remain eligible, so they don't always have the luxury to take an "I". Also, Bolden had academic issues when he was first signed. He may in fact not be a leader as well, probably isn't on the evidence so far, but not everybody is cut out to be a leader; that doesn't mean he is no good as a person or as a football player. After all, if someone is to be a leader, someone else has to follow.

I, too, have had a couple of incompletes in my academic career--once when a professor had a heart attack, and another where my work schedule conflicted with the posted time for the test, and the professor kindly allowed me an incomplete.
