SAN FRANCISCO — Former University of Tennessee safety Rashad Baker ended his first Oakland Raiders practice Thursday by chatting with owner Al Davis, who was sitting in a golf cart on the sideline. Davis remembered Baker had run track (high hurdles) in high school in Camden, N.J.
That’s always a handy entry when presenting a resume to the Raiders.
Oakland, casting an eye toward 2008, claimed Baker on waivers from New England on Wednesday. Coach Lane Kiffin said Baker, 25, will not play Sunday in Jacksonville, but the Raiders want to look at him heading into the offseason.
Baker has spent nearly all of his four NFL seasons as a backup: 28 games with Buffalo, one with Minnesota and 13 over the past two seasons with the Patriots. It might seem like culture shock — leaving a history-chasing 14-0 team to join a playing-out-the-string, 4-10 team — but Baker knows he will have a better chance for playing time next season with the Raiders.
“Well, I haven’t always been on the best of teams,” he said. “It’s always good to have a new beginning. ... I’m glad to be in a new situation and start over.”

Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse! Hope he makes the most of his opportunity. Good luck to him; I'm afraid he'll need it. Happy for Moore, though.
