After seeing Tennessee women's basketball star Candace Parker up close this week, UCLA coach Kathy Olivier didn’t want to compare her to former Southern Cal great Cheryl Miller, just yet.
Olivier was an assistant at USC when Miller, as a sophomore, led the team to a NCAA title in 1984. The Trojans also reached the title game in 1986.
“I thought Cheryl played hard all the time; she was the best of the best,” Olivier said. “There are some good players that don’t understand about playing hard. Candace is a very talented player, but Cheryl was so competitive all the time.”
Parker led Tennessee with 17 points in a 82-70 victory over UCLA on Wednesday.

Yes, Candace hears this from Pat, too. Don't take possessions off!!! Tamika Catchings is my favorite Lady Vol of all time for that very reason. Candace has stated that Tamika was also one of her favorite players. If this is truly your last year Candace, go out with a huge bang and consistently thump every opponent, ranked or unranked!!! Championships will follow that style of play. Just look at the history of all Lady Vol titles. This work ethic is why Pat has been so successful. Take it to heart and make it part of your personality. GO LADY VOLS!!!

Amazing number of parallels between Miller and Parker--great games, great looks, great personalities, and NBA players for brothers. Guess I have to give the nod to Cheryl there, though. Anthony is a good player but he's no Reggie! C'mon, Candace, show those left-coasters that YOU are now the gold standard for women's bball!
