Kentucky quarterbacks coach and former Tennessee offensive coordinator Randy Sanders told The Tennessean he no longer considers himself a candidate in the Western Carolina coaching search.
Sanders told The Asheville Citizen-Times earlier this month he would be interested in the opening. Last week former UT quarterback Heath Shuler included Sanders on a list of possible replacements to Western Carolina athletic director Chip Smith.
Sanders told the Tennessean the situation had changed.
"I haven't talked to anybody at Western Carolina in a while,'' Sanders said.
"I don't think anything is going to happen. I don't think it's a good fit right now. Not unless a lot of things change in a hurry."

Come on, give Sanders a break. He has already been the "fall guy" for Fulmer's inadequacies once. And anyone and everyone has more potential than sixty-five per cent Phil. Don't denigrate Sander's with a Fulmer comparison.

Naw, you're right BigOJ. Stay the course, pound the rock, been doin' it this way for 15 years so why change now?

9/2/07 - Berkeley, CA: Cal Bears 45 - Vols 31
9/15/07 - Gainesville, FL: Gators 59 - Vols 20
10/20/07 - Tuscaloosa, AL: Tide 41 - Vols 17

GOP, I never claimed that those games were great examples of Vol football. I hated every minute of those games, but I still put WAY more stock in Fulmer and Hamilton than you.
TDTN, I suffered through about two minutes of your video and realized 1) my suspicions of your syphilitic fever are correct, and 2) that you're the Vol fan to whom Chris Fowler was referring with his trailer park comment.
It's interesting that neither of you are willing to name your candidates to replace Fulmer, Cutcliffe, and Chavis. Then again, we all knew you're nothing but a lot of talk and no action.
By the way, isn't it about time for your shift at the video game store? Just think, another two years of minimum wage and you can afford to move out of mama's basement.

There is one way to shut us up... Give us some realistic, hireable alternatives to discuss (Here's a hint: Pete Carroll is not leaving USC, Norm Chow will not come back to college as an OC, and Buddy Ryan is not available).

I'm with BigOrangeJeff. You guys crack me up always talking trash but never have any real suggestions or answers. You normally wrong on your pics of the games and seem to have no knowledge of the game. I don't understand that unless you just drink before you respond on this board. I have coached football and have worked with colleges in 7 states. If you truly understand the workings of college football. Then you know that to have a winning program year after year is very rare. I don't understand the we must win it all every year attitude. I know your going to say that you don't have it but I think that you do. Only instead of saying it you just put a negative spin on it all. Stand up and say who would be a better team of coaches that Fulmer and who he will hire. Or at least man up and answer BigOrangeJeffs question. By not answering, you are letting everyone on this board (who really already thinks) that you guys have no knowledge and just like to start stuff on this board. Which by the way IS your perogitive. I won't take that away from you. But you get now respect unless you give a respectful answer.

So, BigOJ, "I hated every minute of those games ...." but you're still a proponent of "stay the course?" You would make a good partner for the Marquis de Sade. Evidently you love the pain! (Inferiority complex maybe?) BTW, Hamilton is doing a pretty good job. Remember how he handled that guy who moved to Conway, SC a few years go?
Now, back to the issue at hand. Since you "... hated every minute of those games ....," how can you continue with your rants - stay the course, pound the rock, done it this way for 15 years....? You seem intelligent enough to know that when you are in a hole, the best thing to do is to stop digging! But, maybe I over estimate your intelligence.
I never claimed to be a s**t hot college football personnel man. If I were, I wouldn't be here exchanging trivial banter with you! I only claim to be a loyal and avid fan of Tennessee football ... and basketball ... and baseball ... and golf ... and ladies basketball ... and any other sport Tennessee particpates in.
Again, you have a nice day.

GOP, you are dead wrong on some of your points, but you are making progress.
First, you have never read "stay the course", or "pound the rock", or "done it this way for 15 years" in one of my posts. All I've said is if you come with a problem, propose a solution. That's Management 101.
Now, for your progress: You can finally admit that you don't know as much about college football as you lead on. You either trust Hamilton's judgment or you don't. We - that's you, me, and everyone else on here - have little to no clue about the inner workings of a major college football program. There are things that go on behind the scenes that none of us ever know, or need to know for that matter.
I, for one, believe that after nearly 40 years of service to the university, Coach Fulmer has earned the opportunity to right the ship. With the youth on this team, Fulmer has probably made a good case to the UTAD for the future directon of the program. I would imagine that, although he received his contractual raise and extension, Hamilton has put the coach on notice. If, in the next two to three years we're still looking at 8-5, 9-4 seasons, I'd wager he'll pull the trigger.
Just my $.02,

want a list of coaches BOJ Maybe there is no one out there. Maybe we just couldn't find a coach that is innovative and motivated and can motivate. I like coach Fulmer. He did a wonderful job. Notice the "did" as in past tense. Maybe he can hire some assistants that can put the program back where he had it but so far it is not happening. He can stay the head coach until he is 80 as long as I care as long as he gets some assistants with winning ways and ideas. He needs to do what Bobby Bowden is doing. Making appearances, shaking hands, recruiting, doing interviews and let some bright young minds do the play calling and lose the old playbook.
Colliervol writes:
That's OK jamali. You can "complain, female dog, moan, fuss and fight" all you want to. As long as you understand that it means nothing regarding whether Fulmer leaves or not. Neither he, Hamilton nor the board are listening to you. Feel free to continue beating your head against the wall.

Hamilton needs to tell the VOL nation that the average contributor means nothing to the University. Come on Mikey, You can do it. What we think does not count. How has the Outback ticket sales gone. I have bought so many bowl tickets and gotten blown out this decade that I will not purchase any more till we get this program ship shape!
GerryOP writes:
BigOJ, if I led you to believe that I had some vast knowledge of college football, then shame on you for letting me lead you on. Believe me, if any of us actually had the kind of knowledge that we exude, we would not be wasting our time here. But, we all still have opinons!
My opinion is that the UT football team's performance in 2005 and their performance in the three games that I itemized above should cause PAF to be held accountable. Management 101 -- the boss is accountable for the performance of his team/employees. He picked/hired them, he's accountable. You don't agree? I could care less whether you agree or not!
However, if you demand I offer alternatives, I demand you explain why PAF should not be held accountable. Fair enough?
BTW, I agree that PAF did earn a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card for his years of loyal service. He burned it in 2005. Reward his years of loyal service with a gold watch, a desk down the hall from Mike Hamilton, and any title that makes him happy -- except Head Coach.
In closing, life is important. Playing word games in forums like this is not important. Life 101. Be well.

You are out of your mind! What do you mean earned the opportunity to right the ship? It is under Fulmer that the ship has run aground, and the future direction of the program is going to be the same with Fulmer as HC. Devastating losses to Florida, no top ten finishes, no BCS bowls, whining and moaning and making excuses, losing records to top ten teams, losing records in minor bowl games, ad in finitum. Perhaps you had better go back and check out the "restoration" program of Fulmer this decade. You will find his record doesn't even match UT's all time winning percentages in both conference play and overall. Try the last three years, and find, with a Wisconsin loss, a 23 and 15 record (.600). That is really righting the ship isn't it? What silly logic you use.
wjackson#226202 writes:
4,5,and 6 losses every year? I think you are exaggerating a little. Find me some teams (a couple) that have less than 4 losses every year for the last 15 years since that is how long Fulmer has been coaching here. We all have beef with the way Fulmer does things now and then. But you have to understand that the first and foremost for these kids is to help them grow up and move on. That has to be a big part of your program or you will end up like Miami. Alot of wins but a horrible reputation. College football, like most things goes in cycles. LSU hasn't been beating @ss for 15 years. Maybe florida, but they too have had a few bad ones. How long has USC been in the top tier? Fulmer still has the best winning percentage for a reason. I am not a Fulmer lover with orange glasses. I have my issues with some decisions he makes. However. Traveling around the U.S. to different campuses I do understand how some of the decisions that the fans dissaprove of are made. From the heart. I know that's tough to hear. But unlike the NFL. It's not all about winning in College football (oh no, he said it now) : )

Always nice to peruse the rants and rages of the VolNation brain trust. I feel SO MUCH BETTER, knowing what no matter what Mike or Phil or whoever does, no matter how the players succeed (it was luck) or fail (it was lack of discipline), no matter the position we find ourselves in (we backed in) there will be some condescending souls to suck the air out of the good and blow smoke on the bad. Bad coaching is always to blame; fire the coach is always the strategy. You guys give new meaning to "keep the home fires burning." I can only imagine that you are really fun on a date. I am a fan, in fair weather and foul, but to those of you who hate the coach, distrust the AD and dare imagine that you know better about the one or two things on your radar than those who daily have to know and manage the thousand things on theirs, then I say may you always have the coach YOU deserve.
And please, God, do not let any prospective coaches or recruits read this stuff.
