Defensive lineman Turk McBride has put on the most impressive show. He topped all defensive linemen in the shuttle run, and was also among the leaders with a 4.81 in the 40-yard dash and the 3-cone drill (7.1). He was respectable in the bench press with 27 reps of 225. pounds.
Wide receiver Robert Meachem's stock has likely gone up with a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash -- a time among the leaders in that category.
Defensive lineman Justin Harrell did 24 reps in bench press. The total, although not among the leaders, likely answered some questions about his return from the bicep tear injury that took him out most of his senior season. He did not fare as well in agility drills, finishing near the back of the pack.
Offensive lineman Arron Sears had mixed results. Scouts took note of his arms, at 34A 1/2 inches the longest among offensive linemen, but he managed only 21 reps on the bench press.
The Vol with the most to gain, fullback Cory Anderson, showed off a 37-inch vertical leap, just a half-inch shorter than Meachem's and among the leaders in his category. At 6-foot-2 Anderson was also listed as the tallest running back.
Other Vols being tested are receivers Bret Smith and Jayson Swain, linebacker Marvin Mitchell and safety Jonathan Wade. Smith sat out some drills with an illness.
The testing ends today with defensive backs.
