One-time UT prospect Dunlap says he's headed to Florida

Carlos Dunlap, a defensive end from Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C., committed to the University of Florida on Monday, choosing the Gators over South Carolina.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Dunlap had seriously considered Tennessee until he cancelled a trip to Knoxville scheduled for Jan. 12. Dunlap's head coach, Steve LaPrad, said Dunlap eliminated UT when he became tired of the recruiting process.

"It's been so hectic and I think he probably liked Tennessee's coaching staff more than any," LaPrad said. "His parents loved the school and all. He wanted to limit it to two schools so it came down to South Carolina and Florida."

LaPrad said Dunlap had developed a strong relationship with UT defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks and didn't want to mislead the Vols when he knew his decision would come down to Florida or South Carolina.

"He didn't want to waste Tennessee's time or his time," LaPrad said. "He hated it because coach Brooks does a great job recruiting this area."

Dunlap's commitment to Florida won't end UT's recruiting efforts at Fort Dorchester.

LaPrad said juniors Robert Quinn, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound linebacker/defensive end, and Tony Mack, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound cornerback, will both be heavily recruited in the 2008 class.

LaPrad said Quinn and Mack took unofficial visits to UT in the fall and have a serious interest in the Vols.
