UT appears roadblock for Hall

Defensive lineman Cory Hall from Chattanooga Brainerd plans to finalize his college decision by the end of the week.

The 6-5, 260-pound Hall said he’s leaning towards Marshall. He is also considering UT and Middle Tennessee State.

Academic issues have been the stumbling block on joining the Vols. If he didn’t become eligible, Hall could not enroll at UT, as per SEC rules, and would likely be forced to attend prep school for at least a semester to improve his academic standing.

If Hall signs with the Thundering Herd and still has academic issues this fall, then he can enroll at Marshall but can’t play in his first year.

"I like the atmosphere," Hall said of Marshall. "There are a lot of things I like about Marshall."

Hall announced he was committed to UT last fall. The problem was he hadn’t been offered a scholarship. Now, UT has offered but told Hall to expect a prep school stopover because of grades and a very limited number of scholarships available for UT’s 2007 class.

"I like Tennessee," Hall said. "It’s the biggest program you can get when you talk college football. It’s the SEC."
