Small contribution by Hornbuckle to start

Tennessee guard Alexis Hornbuckle started for the United States and had four assists in a 95-41 opening victory over Columbia on Friday at the Pan American Games in Rio De Janerio, Brazil.

Hornbuckle played just six minutes and was 1-of-3 shooting, missing both 3-point attempts, and added four rebounds and one steal.

Nikki Anosike of the Lady Vols played 17 minutes off the bench and was 3-of-6 for eight points with seven rebounds and one steal and three fouls.

Hornbuckle played 19 minutes as the Americans crushed Argentina 85-54 on Saturday. She made both her shots to score four points with one assist and two steals.

Anosike also started and played 19 minutes. She pulled down eight rebounds and scored 9 points on 3 of 6 shooting.

The U.S., Colombia, Argentina and Cuba are in Pool B. Brazil, Canada, Jamaica and Mexico are in Pool A. The best two teams in each group qualify for the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the U19 World Championship Team with UT signees Angie Bjorklund and Vicki Baugh defeated Spain 79-71 and finished 3-0 in an exhibition tournament in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary Islands.

Baugh had seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and added six rebounds in 13 minutes. She also had three blocks, two steals and four turnovers and was called for two fouls. In the two others games, Baugh was called for eight fouls in 12 minutes and did not score.

Bjorklund did not attempt a shot in six minutes, but had four rebounds, an assist and a turnover.

The team will depart today for Bratislava, Slovakia, for the FIBA U19 World Championship which starts Thursday.
