Anosike earns playing time in U.S. win

Tennessee’s Nikki Anosike scored eight points and Lady Vol Alexis Hornbuckle added four for the United States in a 78-63 victory over Cuba in the Pan American games on Sunday.

Anosike added five rebounds and five steals in 32 minutes. She was 4-of-11 from the field

Hornbuckle had three rebounds and played 19 minutes She missed her only 3-point shot and was 0-2 from the free-throw line.

Marissa Coleman scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the U.S. team. Angel McCoughtry added 13 points and Natasha Humphrey had 10.

Yaima Boulet scored 19 points for Cuba.

The United States led by as many as 20 points.

Men’s Swimming: Octavio Alesi of UT finished eighth in the finals of the 50-meter freestyle at the Pan American Games

His time of 22.88 seconds was 1.04 behind winner Cesar Cielo Filho of Brazil.

Alesi, representing his home country of Venezuela , was also a part of the men’s 4x100 team that finished seventh in a time of 4:47.83.

The United States won the event in 3:34.37.
