Tennessee senior defensive back Jonathan Hefney is on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list, the UT sports information office announced today.
The award is given annually to the player judged the best defensive back in college football.
Hefney had 96 tackles last season. He has nine career interceptions and his 226 career tackles rank him second among active SEC players.
There are 35 players on the list, which will be cut to 10 semifinalists Nov. 5.
