The gritty, gutsy style Aaron Green had as a University of Tennessee men’s basketball player in the late 1990s will return to the Vols this season as part of Bruce Pearl’s coaching staff.

The Sweetwater native will serve as a graduate manager, continuing work towards a master’s degree in sport management.

His tenure as the Cleveland High School boys’ basketball coach ends with a career record of 155-72. The Blue Raiders won 20 or more games six times, and he was the 2005 Chattanooga Times Free Press Coach of the Year.

“We are delighted to add Aaron Green to our coaching staff,” Pearl said in a UT release. “He brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience. But, more importantly, he has been a Tennessee Vol his entire life.

“Since I have been here he has wanted to join our staff, and now he will have that opportunity.”

Green played for Tennessee 1995-1999. He is sixth on UT’s career 3-point field goal list with 99 made. Green had 115 career steals, good enough for 11th in school history, and contributed 5.4 points per game over his four seasons.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Pearl, who is one of the best coaches in college basketball,” Green said in the release. “I’m very grateful and honored to return to the University of Tennessee where I spent four memorable years.

“I’ve been a Vol my entire life. It is obviously very difficult to leave the Cleveland High School basketball program. I have spent seven wonderful years there, and I am very proud of all the young men I have coached.”

I love Coach Pearl's style of basketball, even if it can get exposed at times (the OSU games will forever be painful, right up thee with the LSU SEC fottball loss in the title game and the Braves loss to the twinks in 91; sigh).

--OSU: Bradshaw missed an open layup late
--SEC title game: Battle has the ball in his hands for a sure interception/TD, and drops it
--Twinks: Lonnie Smith gets deked-out on Justice's double. Ron Gant can't get the ball out of the infield; Treadway sits on the bench while Bream gidp's. arggggh...

Oh, shott, back to the subject: to me, what Bruce does best is let his players have fun playing the game on offense, yet requires they defend and rebound. That fits nicely with the kids, who want to show what they can do on offense yet will respond to the discipline of team defense.

Good luck, Mr. Green, and if you coach like Bruce, we will hear from you again.

When ever Dane Bradshaw is done playing basketball, I would expect to see him coaching somewhere - Hopefully back at UT in some role. GO VOLS!

Aaron is a heck of a guy as I have talked personally to him about both the football and basketball teams and he is always right there up to date on every game. It is always an experience to meet another true Volunteer. Just teach them how to stroke that three pimp!
