Abbott strikes out eight to send U.S. to title game

The world champion U.S. women’s softball team actually allowed two hits — the first hits they have given up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the Pan American Games — in a 7-0, five-inning win over Canada.

The victory, behind eight strikeouts by former UT star Monica Abbott, lifted the Americans into the final today against the winner between Canada and Venezuela.
