CBS sets pair of UT games for afternoon

Although the University of Tennessee hasn’t officially announced the kickoff for football games against Georgia and Alabama, CBS television has again posted the game times on its Web site.

UT’s home game against Georgia on Oct. 6 is listed at 3:30 p.m. CBS has reserved the same time slot for UT’s game at Alabama on Oct. 20.

CBS also has reserved the right to telecast UT’s home game against Arkansas, as well as Auburn at Georgia on Nov. 10 at 3:30. CBS will have the first choice with the other game available to ESPN or Lincoln Financial Sports.

The same situation exists with UT’s home game against Vanderbilt on Nov. 16. The other CBS choices for 3:30 are LSU at Ole Miss and Kentucky at Georgia.

Already, CBS has announced it will televise UT’s game at Florida on Sept. 15 at 3:30.

All CBS games and Lincoln Financial Sports games in the Knoxville market are carried by WVLT.

Four other UT games already have start times and television plans. The season opener at California on Sept. 1 will be televised by ABC and WATE locally at 8 p.m. Home games against Southern Miss on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., Arkansas State on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. and homecoming against Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. will be available on Video Seat pay-per-view.

All that leaves to be decided are UT’s games at South Carolina on Oct. 27 and Kentucky on Nov. 24.

Ah, yes, the time slots are filling and I can start planning ahead just a wee bit! Boy, that drives my wife crazy, BUT I warned her that I was a rabid Tennessee fanatic! haha. GO VOLS!!!

So what ever happened to night games? Why do we play so few games under the lights?

Does CBS dictate when we play? Because, lemme tell you, it's BLAZIN' hot in Neyland Stadium's student section at 3:30, not matter what month it is...

Yes, Zachary, TV dictates everything. The last lunacy was a noon kickoff in Gainesville in mid September in 2003. Temperature on the field was over 100, not that it was any cooler and way more uncomfortable (humidity) two years later at a night game there. But TV calls all the shots on when you play.
