Ward, Chavis to speak as part of 'Warm-up'

The lineup for this year’s “Football Warm-up and More” non-credit course at Tennessee will include former UT sportscaster John Ward and Vols defensive coordinator John Chavis, according to a release for the UT sports information office.

The course, being offered for the seventh time, will have sessions Aug. 20 and 27 at the Wolf-Kaplan Lounge for a total fee of $59.

Special guests include:

Chavis, who is making his first appearance at the Big Orange Football Warm-Up, and will be the kickoff speaker. Chavis has been with the Vols since 1989 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2005.

Ward, a member of the Sports Hall of Fame who was named the state’s Sportscaster of the Year 28 times.

Former Vol great and NFL stalwart Tim Irwin, a Knox County Juvenile Court judge.

Dewey Warren, broadcaster and former UT quarterback.

Moderators for the class include Haywood Harris, a longtime Vol publicist, historian, and author, and Don K. Ferguson, author and News Sentinel grammar and history columnist.

The team starts practice Friday, and as of tomorrow football season kicks off in less than a month. Ladies and Gentleman .... it is just over 30 days until we hear the greatest 5 words on earth brodcast in every form of media possible. IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE !!! ........ He's at the 10, the 5, the 4, 3,2,1 Give him 6 ... Touchdown Tennessee!!!
That last part was for Mr. Ward.
