Raasaan Haralson will join former Tennessee quarterback Jim Bob Cooter as a graduate assistant coach on UT’s staff this fall.
Haralson, 34, spent the last two years as an assistant strength coach with the Vols, working with football, track and other Olympic sports. He also supervised weight room volunteers and interns.
Before coming to UT, Haralson spent four years as an assistant coach at Istrouma High School in his native Baton Rouge, La.
“I guess I made a good impression on the coaching staff and the players with my hard work,” Haralson said in a UT release. “They must have seen that I had a passion for what I was doing and now I am humbled to be given this opportunity.”
Haralson was a defensive back at Southern University, and is expected to help with defensive backs this fall.
“We are excited to have Raasaan with us,” UT coach Phillip Fulmer said. “We’re looking forward to his filling a much-needed role helping (defensive coordinator) John Chavis and (defensive backs coach) Larry Slade prepare for the 2007 season.”
Haralson replaces Shawn Witten as the defensive GA.
Former UT linebacker Kevin Simon will replace Haralson on UT’s strength and conditioning staff.
Drew Edwards covers University of Tennessee football. He may be reached at 865-342-6247.
