Tennessee womens basketball coach Pat Summitt was admitted to a local hospital Thursday afternoon to be treated for dehydration.
Debby Jennings, the Lady Vols associate athletic director for media relations, said that Summitt would be under observation (Thursday) evening. Summitt was being treated at St. Marys Medical Center. Hospital spokesman Craig Griffith said that the family had requested that no information on her condition be released.
Summitt, who celebrated her 55th birthday last Thursday, was at home when she became ill and fainted Thursday. The Lady Vols completed a summer camp session Wednesday and Summitt entertained guests at her home that evening.
Tennessees elite camp will take place this weekend.
With Thompson-Boling Arena under construction, the Lady Vols are using other facilities for their camps. As a result, air conditioning is scarce, which might have contributed to Summitts condition.
Summitt finished her 33rd season as the Lady Vols coach in April by directing the 2006-07 squad to the programs seventh national championship. The season culminated with a 59-46 victory over Rutgers in the Womens Final Four in Cleveland.

I am a physician and I don't buy for a second that Pat Summitt passed out from dehydration while sitting down. I sure hope that she had a treadmill test of some sort and a 24 hour Holter (cardiac) monitor as a bare minimum.
