GoVolsXtra.com has a new subscription rate — $0.00.
Starting today the News Sentinel’s popular website, which offers the most complete coverage of the University of Tennessee sports anywhere, will be open to everyone at no charge.
“GoVolsXtra has been a great success,” said News Sentinel executive sports editor Steve Ahillen, “but the Internet landscape is changing and we believe it’s time to open the site to everyone.”
GoVolsXtra includes a wealth of stories and photographs on all Tennessee sports, as well as complete recruiting coverage including blogs by UT recruiting expert Dave Hooker, rebroadcasts of the News Sentinel’s Sports Page radio show on demand, opportunities for readers to sound off on UT sports, slide shows from practice and games, player videos and much more.
In redesigned and relaunched Web site, the News Sentinel is aggressively expanding features and coverage.
“With GoVolsXtra, we took our sports coverage to another level three years ago in print and online,” said Jack Lail, managing editor for multimedia. “Now, it’s time to do it again.”
Simply log on to GoVolsXtra.com and hang on for the Big Orange ride.

I do not like the new format. I had rather pay for the old one.

I think it's about time. For too long now, basic stories (not just special interest or especially in-depth stories) have been hidden away behind a subscription. Readers like me just went over to the Tennessean website and read them there.
This way you keep your readers on your site, looking at your advertisers' content. Thanks for demonstrating that realization!

I am please that this is being offered free. Hey it is a new look, it only takes a moment to look it over and see where everything is.
Thanks!

Great! Thank you so much. It was very frustrating to read teaser sports headlines on the front page, only to click on them and be presented with the subscription form. And, BTW, the new look is great.

Thanks so much! I've been reading free content for years, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to sign up for a user account.
I didn't see a place for bug reports/feature requests, so let me just throw a couple in:
- Some of the links to podcast RSS feed are giving 404 errors
- I don't see a way to subscribe to RSS feeds on the blogs
Overall though, great work! This is a huge improvement over the last site.

Thanks Rusty, we'll look at those. You can always email webmaster@knoxnews.com with bug reports.

Rusty, the podcast subscribe links should work now.

Thank you for getting rid of the subscription price. It is much appreciated by this Vol fan who lives far from Rocky Topland.

Guess that $2 to $4 a month was going to break some folks, huh? Price is good for sure and I like the inclusion of all sports unlike the pay site. HOWEVER, the downside will be when the Bama, Gator, and Memphis fans (among others) infest this site. I preferred to pay for it to keep out the dregs from the other schools. Guess I'll sit back and wait for the mess to start. The mods had better have their "BAN" button ready.

so does this mean those of us who have paid will receive a refund?
