Ex-UT star Layman injured in ATV crash

Former University of Tennessee offensive tackle Jason Layman is improving at the UT Medical Center after suffering multiple broken bones after the all-terrain vehicle on which he was a passenger was involved in a wreck, according to WVLT-TV.

Layman's father told the television station his son was a passenger on an ATV driven near Upper Rinehart Road in Jefferson County last Sunday night when the ATV slid down an embankment and hit a tree.

Layman broke all four bones in his legs and his collarbone.

He was taken to the hospital by LifeStar and was in stable condition Saturday, according to a nursing supervisor.

The father told WVLT that his son was riding along with a client interested in purchasing property. Layman works as a land appraiser for Tennessee State Bank.

Layman played at UT from 1992-1995 and was a captain his senior season.

He played seven seasons in the NFL with the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans.
