The No. 10 Tennessee Lady Vol golf team will compete against second-seeded Florida today for third place at the Hooters Match Play Tournament at Ginn Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Tennessee defeated Michigan State on Sunday and Texas A&M on Monday morning before falling to top-seeded Duke, 3-1-1, in the semifinals.
"We are happy about winning our first two matches and having had the opportunity to play Duke today," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon said. "Florida will be a good challenge for us tomorrow (Tuesday). They have a really good team, so we will have to be a little more focused tomorrow in order to beat them."
Against Duke, junior Rachel Ingram fell to two-time defending PING National Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year, Amanda Blumenherst, 7 and 6. Rebecca Watson, a freshman, was all square with Rebecca Kim after 18 holes, but lost in 20.
Sophomore Diana Cantu was up on Jennie Lee for the majority of the round and finished 1-up. Nicole Smith was leading Jennifer Pandolfi by one until the eighth hole, but eventually lost 4 and 2. Ginny Brown fell to Alison Whitaker, 2 and 1.
Lady Vols Marci Turner and Angela Oh are not with the team in Orlando. They are competing at the Duramed FUTURES Tour 2008 Qualifying Tournament in Lakeland, Fla.
Volleyball: Following a pair of record-breaking performances for the UT volleyball team this past weekend, sophomore Chloe Goldman was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week. The league honors mark the first of Goldman's career and the third by a Lady Vol this season. Sophomore Leah Hinkey was tabbed SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28 and Nikki Fowler was named the Freshman of the Week on Oct. 15.
