Tennessee sophomore wing J.P. Prince will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder some time within the next week, coach Bruce Pearl said Tuesday.
Prince, who transferred from Arizona last December, injured his shoulder in an Oct. 31 practice when he fell awkwardly chasing a loose ball in the Pratt Pavilion.
As a mid-term transfer, Prince isn't eligible to suit up to play for the Vols until UT tips off against Western Kentucky on Dec. 15 in Nashville, though he has been practicing with the team since arriving. UT expects him in the lineup against Western Kentucky provided his rehabilitation from surgery goes well.
Prince had been one of the Vols' more impressive players in the fall workouts, showing explosiveness to the basket and strong ball-handling skills. Prince is projected to spend the majority of his time at wing this season, though Pearl has said the 6-foot-8 former Memphis White Station standout also has the skills to play point guard, shooting guard and power forward.
