E.J. Abrams-Ward witnessed the excitement of Tennessee football when he saw the Vols beat South Carolina 27-24 in overtime on Oct. 27.
The athlete from Thomasville (N.C.) High School watched the game at Neyland Stadium during an unofficial visit.
“I loved the atmosphere,” Abrams-Ward said. “I loved the game, the fans, the coaching staff and players. It was a great experience.”
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Abrams-Ward was already familiar with the experience. He attended UT’s 21-20 loss at home to Florida last season.
Although the Vols lost, Abrams-Ward left Knoxville impressed with UT.
“It’s one of the top schools in the nation,” he said. “The whole state is football. Every down and every play people were into it.”
UT has remained in close contact with Abrams-Ward. He said he most recently spoke to coach Phillip Fulmer on Wednesday night.
Abrams-Ward said Fulmer told told him that his first look will be at wide receiver, although linebacker is also an option. He said his preference is to play receiver.
“Just to be a playmaker,” Abrams-Ward said. “There are not too many 6-5 receivers and if they are they’re in the NFL. I’m somebody with athletic ability that can go get the ball.”
Abrams-Ward said along with UT he’s considering North Carolina, Boston College, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.
He said his list remains open with no favorites. Still, North Carolina has its benefits as an in-state school.
“It’s a hometown favorite school,” he said. “They’re good at all sports year-round. They have a lot of support in every area.”
Abrams-Ward is interested in areas other than football because he hopes to walk on as a basketball player. He said UT, North Carolina, Boston College and Clemson have all told him he’ll have a shot to play basketball.
Abrams-Ward said he’s become familiar with UT’s basketball program and head coach Bruce Pearl.
“He’s doing an excellent job,” Abrams-Ward said of Pearl. “Where he started when he got there they weren’t too bad, but I think they’re No. 7 preseason now.
“That’s excellent. Basketball-wise it’s become a great thing as well as football.”
Abrams-Ward hasn’t taken an official visit yet and hasn’t scheduled any. He said he plans to take an unofficial visit to South Carolina this weekend and Clemson next weekend.
Abrams-Ward said he often hears opinions from outsiders about which school he should choose. He said he listens, but only to a certain extent.
“I listen and take in what they have to say,” he said. “When they start to hype up a school extensively is when I turn it off.”

Pretty big list. Bama, GA and SC still on the list. He's smart, he'll wait and see how these teams end the season and make his decision then. Also, may even wait till basketball season is over. That will be the wild card for MR. 2 sport.

Glad EJ had a nice visit. 6'5" can be impressive split out wide.
When I look at the schools on his list (North Carolina, Boston College, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama) for both FB and BB, BC is the only competition. For FB games, I've been to UNC (yawn), SC (a little better), UGA and Bama (old school SEC, 'nuff said). But a school for BOTH, right now it's UT and BC. Thomasville is closer and the weather is a LOT better in KnoxVegas than Boston!!

I'm thinking he would look great in Orange.

I hope Fulmer looks at these comments. If the young man wants to play wide out, for goodness sake let him do it. I just hate it when we play against a tall receiver.
