Guy calls visit to UT 'good'

When Tennessee hosts a prospect from two times zones away, it hopes to make a fantastic impression.

That didn’t seem to be the case during an interview with Lawrence Guy, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound defensive tackle from Western High School in Las Vegas, Nev.

“It went good,” Guy said.

But not great. That wouldn’t seem to bode well for the Vols, for a player who once described UT as his leader.

Guy said he was impressed with the game day atmosphere at UT, but added that it wasn’t much different than the environment he was a part of during official visits to Oklahoma and Arizona State. Guy will take an official visit to Arizona on Dec. 7.

“That’s my final four,” said Guy, who plans to make an announcement on Dec. 13.

Proximity wouldn’t seem to favor UT. No matter, said Guy.

“It doesn’t affect their chances at all,” he replied. “Distance isn’t a factor to me.”

Defensive tackle prospects usually come away from a UT official trip wowed with the Vols’ success of developing NFL talent at that position. John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth and Darwin Walker come to mind.

“I really don’t look at that,” Guy said. “I look at the program, to see how it gets people growing and moving.”
