The Tennessee Lady Vols' soccer team will head to the University of Portland for the third round of the NCAA tournament for a game at 10 p.m. Saturday against the host school.
Tennessee will be playing in its fifth NCAA "Sweet 16" in program history. The Lady Vols have never advanced out of the Sweet 16.
The Pilots are the No. 2 seed in UT's section of the bracket and enter the match with a 17-3-0 record after topping Denver and Colorado in the opening rounds. UP was ranked third in the final regular season National Soccer Coaches Association/adidas poll and has won two of the last five national championships in 2002 and 2005.
The two teams have met just once - Sept. 7, 1998, when the seventh-ranked Pilots won a 5-0 win at Merlo Field.
In other UT news:
n For the second consecutive week and third time this season, University of Tennessee freshman Nikki Fowler has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week. Fowler led the team with 39 kills in a pair of matches last week, including 22 putaways in a four-game victory over Arkansas on Friday.
