Former Fulton standout Dennis Rogan was named SEC special teams player of the week for his 146 return yards against Vanderbilt.
His 45-yard punt return set up UT's game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter.
Since taking over the return duties, Rogan is averaging 13.0 yards per punt return and 31.7 yards per kickoff return.

And to think, Fulmer almost didn't even offer Rogan and let him go.
Not to recruiting "experts". It's not always about the stars. Anyone that saw Rogan play in High School could see that he had the moves and instincts to play at a major D-1 school.
Now if we can learn from Rogan and start recruiting Andre Sterling from Farragut.

I'm hoping this is a sign that we'll take more risks on local players. 107,000 people love to scream for the local kid. GOVOLS. Hope we get to see BJ Coleman alot next year too.

It's refreshing to finally be able to watch the other team punt, anticipating magic (instead of disaster) on the return.
Great job, Mr. Rogan! Keep it up!
Realist writes:
Rogan has brought excitement to a position that has lacked for many years at TN. Been a while since I have seen a returner go full speed north and south with reckless abandonment as well as east and west and beat defenders to the corners. Please stay away from Coker, we need you the next 3 years!

This should be a special team next season. Our defense is getting upgraded with some great new talent that didn't qualify out of highschool and we are getting the tight end star from Florida State. That and along with pretty much our same RB's and OL and defensive secondary...we should be pretty good along as Crompton is ready to do the play calling.

Way to go, Dennis!! I watched Rogan play his entire high school career, and knew he could be outstanding. I hope to see much more of him over the next 3 years.

This is a perfect example of why Tennessee needs to do everything it can to get all the Tennessee kids it can. Bear Bryant once said he would take a kid with lesser talent from Alabama because he knew the meaning of putting on the crimson uniform, and playing UT and Auburn. In the 4th quarter they will give that extra needed to win the game. Fulmer needs to get the kids that grow up dreaming of putting on the Orange. Go Vols!
callen825#321558 writes:
I predict Mr. Rogan or Mr. Creer will return a kick off against KY, but it will take more than that for TN to win this game, unfortunately. We'll be there to hopefully see the ol' alma mater win an SEC East Title and advance to Atlanta.
I still like Eric Berry for president

Rogan as the SEC's Special Teams PLayer of the Week? Shouldn't the guy from Vandy have gotten that before Rogan? We all know that his roughing the kicker penalty was the main reason Tennessee won the game. You cannot deny that. And you cannot deny that Tennessee got manhandled by a team who got beat by Louisiana-Monroe. But the SEC is soooooooooooooo strong! Give me a break.

Good job, Rogan, my homey from North Knoxville. Way to go Coach Phil, that's 4 wins in a row. We may even win a 5th this weekend, but we know Bama is going to lose another one to Auburn so its all good!

Don't think Rogan was special teams MVP, based on punt returns and kickoff returns? Go to this link, and read down to item #5.

That was a good story. Ilove_football, your argument is phooey. Saben throttled Tennessee. Coaching up for one game? I think not. Do you call what happened last weekend as going forward? It was frickin Vandy! And Ark. St. And Miss. St. And a bad South Carolina team. And a bad Arkansas team. And finally, a good Georgia team. Don't let these wins fool you. I will be impressed with a Kentucky win though. And by the way, I'm a Boise St. fan, not Nebraska.

Nice link orangebloodgmc, I always check in on CFN. A couple of other guys who I think are doing a good job on special teams are Savion Frazier and Nick Reveiz.

Who recruited Rogan, Eric Berry, Gerald Jones, Creer, all these talented freshman ? Was it Fulmer or one of the assistants ? Either way, we have to be happy at the talent that is so young.
How would everyone feel if the University just layed down $4mil/yr and the guy loses three straight, the most recent to ULM ! The grass is always greener they say, careful what you ask for.

I am sure it warms your hearts to offer all the home cooking scholarships to the local boys. Ole Miss does that and we see how that works out for them! I guess Peyton, Tee Martin, Arian Foster, Eric Berry, Chuck Smith, Condredge Hollaway, Jimmy Streeter,Michael Munoz, Cosey Coleman, the Reveiz brothers, Bubba Wyche, Dewey Warren, Jonathan Heffney, Inky Johnson, Turk Mcbride, Eric Ainge and so many West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey boys that Gen Neyland brought in were somehow less in your mind because they were not born in Tennessee. Although the numbers have are improving, Tenn does not have the talent in state to compete year in year out. Outside of Tenn we are thought of as more of a basketball breeding ground than football. Be thankful that these men are Volunteering to wear the Orange and fight the battles in the name of UT.
PS some kids will always go elsewhere just for the "experience".

The grass is not always greener? is it PLEASEGETABRAIN, sometimes its blue. To the others who are telling the Tennessee coaching staff who to sign I think I'd rather take my chances with those who have a proven recruiting record and who have seen many high school players in many games and not one or two on one or two teams that are local.

FYI, it is Parys Harrelson, and he is from Missippi. Or Justin Harrell, who is from Tennessee.
Also, local/native greats: Bill Bates, Reggie White. Reggie Cobb. Andy Kelley. James Wilhoit, Jason Whitten, AL WILSON, Eddie Moore, Jermaine (who was the man) Copeland, Cosey Coleman.
Right now: Dan Williams, Reggie Coleman, Ryan "hot" Carl, Antoinio Gaines (starter at season opener), Marsalous Johnson, DENNIS ROGAN.... etc....
Bottom line, Tennessee players carry the heart and soul and show the 'Talent' what TN football is all about.....
When our whole team is a bunch of total out of staters, start calling us BOSTON COLLEGE.....

Just come down here to Florida and camp out at Miami Northwestern and a couple other high schools in S. Florida and we can get all the talent we need. The blue chip kids either want to be Gators or leave the state. Miami and FSU have fallen out of favor with the elite kids. Ohio State, Michigan, Southern Cal, etc. are getting the rest of them. It is good we are going to play UCLA next year, UT needs to establish a presence in Southern California and steal a few from there too.

My point exactly ALLVOLinarkiesaw. You took the bait perfectly. The Vols have one real win this year and the rest were against nobodies. As were two of the losses. Please try to prove me wrong.

PLEASE-- I'm not going to argue with ignorance. But you've shown where your attitude comes from(and quite a few others on this board). " I'm a Boise State fan". You and too many other people watch the "@#@$" ESPN puts on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. nights and call it football. Most of the ACC games are OK, but the Boise States of the world are basically gun slinging teams. And yes, I know they got up for one game and beat Okl. The year after they first went undefeated, they came to Athens, Ga. and got drilled. We really don't need your nattering nabobs of negativity on this board.

So, if I understand the majority of the LOCAL TALENT folks, they are suggesting 1) UT coaching staff doesn't know how to recruit 2) We should focus locally - and I think they mean Knox county cause they think all 107k fans are from ktown - because there is enough talent locally to build a top tier team with and 3) we should stay away from states like Florida, Texas, California, Ohio and Lousianna because they aren't local. Have I got that about right you local supporters? Damn glad Coach Fulmer is in charge of recruiting. Congratulations Rogan, glad to see you put down your stuff on Saturdays for the big orange.
THANKYOU4GETTINGRIDOFTHENOTSOSLIMONE writes:
You guys are unbelievable!
ALVOLL-I like your little pattern how it built to UK beating LSU. One problem, you forgot to throw in where MS got throttled out of conference by West Virginia. And while we're at it, throw in Florida St. beating Alabama. And still at it, South Florida thumping Auburn. Tennessee getting spanked by Cal. And don't let me make a pattern for Louisiana-Monroe and how they could be ranked #1. Help me MARC, but why should I be sold on the SEC this year? Where are the big out of conference wins? We all know they are sooooooooo good because they beat up on each other but that excuse doesn't work for any of the above games. And thanks for taking the bait about me being a Boise St fan. I think that I will be now after hearing the SEC homers responses again.
THANKYOU4GETTINGRIDOFTHENOTSOSLIMONE writes:
ALLVOL-The two nobodies are CAL and Alabama. My team is the Vols but I am in remission until there is a new coach. I do know about the SEC and know that it is down this year and I appreciate you acknowleging it. And my supporters will arrive soon when Tennessee blows another chance. Wait and see. It never fails.
THANKYOU4GETTINGRIDOFTHENOTSOSLIMONE writes:
I long haul of disappointing 9-3 and 8-4 years for a program that deserves better. I agree with you ALLVOL. Just as you dream for a SEC championship, I dream for a new coach. It is okay to dream isn't it? Because I believe that you are right and neither one is coming soon because the Tennessee fans like you are happy with mediocracy.

Great job DR ! I don’t know why you weren’t the return man at the start of the season but you’re the MAN now. I look forward to seeing you run one back against the Cats
Colliervol writes:
Good grief, what a waste of time. The only way there is a new coach now is if Fulmer decides to step down on his own. (And I just can't see that happening, can you?) Especially if the Vols win Saturday. The only thing remotely possible will be a change in some defensive coaches. If the season had gone south after the Bama debacle, there might have been a chance but not now.
