Former University of Tennessee basketball players C.J. Watson and Stanley Asumnu are teammates again.
Watson and Asumnu made the final roster for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League.
Watson will start at point guard and Asumnu will be used in a reserve role.
The Vipers are based in McAllen, Texas, and coached by Jim Harrick, who has coached at UCLA and Georgia.
Watson was among the final cuts of the Charlotte Bobcats last month after participating in the NBA summer league with San Antonio. He was selected by the Vipers with the fifth overall pick in the D-League draft on Nov. 1.
Watson split last season with pro teams in Italy and Greece.
This is Asumnu’s first pro deal. After completing his eligibility in basketball at UT, Asumnu was on the football roster last season but had a limited role.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles D-Fenders released former UT forward Andre Patterson to finalize their roster.
