Top junior signs to play tennis

Bryan Swartz, one of the top juniors in the country, has signed with Tennessee for 2008, coach Sam Winterbotham said.

“Bryan is one of the best US juniors in the nation and (associate head coach) Chris (Woodruff) and I are really excited about him joining our program,” Winterbotham said. “We feel his game style is really going to blossom in college and beyond. We expect him to contribute right away. Most importantly Bryan has the character all coaches look for in their players. He is honest, respectful, disciplined, and has a hunger to learn. It is clear Bryan comes from a great family, their support of his talent has been wonderful to see.”

The Sarasota, Fla., native is ranked as a five-star recruit by Tennisrecruiting.net and the 64th-ranked player in his class. He was a member of the 2006 Riverview High School team that finished second in the state of Florida. He also won the No. 2 singles title in 2006.

“I picked Tennessee because I think the coaches there are great and they are going to help take my game to the next level,” Swartz said. “I want to improve as much as possible and help Tennessee win a national title.”

Swartz will join the Tennessee tennis team in August 2008 and plans on studying Business while at UT.
