Walls gets in-home visit from UT

While highly regarded Olive Branch (Miss.) High School linebacker Marlon Walls remains committed to Ole Miss, at least according to Quistors coach Scott Samsel, the former Wooddale (Tenn.) standout is nonetheless considering his options after Ed Orgeron was fired and replaced by Houston Nutt.

Samsel said that the 6-2, 225-pound Walls, rated the No. 5 senior prospect in Mississippi by Rivals.com, was to have an in-home visit with Tennessee on Wednesday night. Walls is continuing to speak with Auburn and Florida as well, Samsel added, and Louisville has also made overtures in recent days.

“At this point, he’s not wavering on his commitment until he meets with the next coach,” said Samsel, who is shielding Walls from reporters in the wake of Orgeron’s firing and ahead of Friday’s Mississippi Class 5A semifinal showdown with Batesville South Panola. “He’s not reconsidered his commitment to Ole Miss but, in all fairness to the kid, he’s got to feel comfortable with the new staff.”

At the same time, however, Samsel speaks of Walls still working with a final four of Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee. Walls originally committed to Florida before switching to the Rebels.

“He is willing to at least consider the other three,” Samsel said.

Jamal Mosley is disappointed that he won’t get to play for Orgeron at Ole Miss. But what really bothers the Kingsbury tight end is the possibility that assistant coach Hugh Freeze might follow his former boss out of Oxford.

If that happens, Mosley — who has yet to speak with Nutt — said there’s no chance of him signing with the Rebels in February.

“I’m waiting to see if they’re gonna fire the guy who recruited me,” Mosley said Wednesday in reference to Freeze, the Rebels’ recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. “If they get rid of him, I’m gonna have to open up my recruitment.”

With 22 known commitments as of Wednesday, the Rebels have already lined up a large chunk of next year’s signing class. But with Orgeron’s sudden departure, and the uncertainty regarding the fate of his staff, some of those recruits are getting a bit anxious.

Mosley, for one, is already in the process of revisiting his decision.

Having originally pledged to the Rebels back in June, Mosley now describes his commitment as a “soft” one. He recently achieved a qualifying score on the ACT exam, leading a number of high-profile schools to renew their interest in him. While Mosley is still considering Ole Miss, he has now scheduled visits to Michigan State, North Carolina and Tennessee and plans to visit Kentucky as well.

“When I made a 20 on the ACT, it opened a lot of doors,” Mosley said. “I’m gonna take visits to all of those schools no matter what happens.”

The negative posters still have a chance to discourage these recruits from coming to Tennessee.

Is the truth negative posting?

Some need to get a life and encourage kids with "heart" to come to Tennessee! All this negative opinions is sick! Sounds like all the Alabama fans that I know that are "stuck" with a 4 million dollar coach and a 6-6 season! WE WON THE EAST FOLKS - Wake up and let's support our TEAM and kids that want to play at Tennessee! Go VOLS BEAT LoSe-U!

All this page is about is opinions. Where one man sees the orange koolaid glass as half full another might see it as half empty. Just because someone isn't happy with the direction the program is heading doesn't make the fair weathered. Hopefully all these kids come here, with the way the Cottam boys have been playing, the TE position looks very good at UT

No, it doesn't make them fair weather to have a different "opinion." It makes them mindless, IRRESPONSIBLE, and UNCONCERNED about the future of the program when they constantly bash the program, the coaches, the administration, players, etc.

There is a minority of people who have no life and continually post negative garbage...as Coach Majors called them, "the Legions of the Miserable." NOTHING would please them.
If the recruits will see through the asinine posters and realize that a Big Orange Army is behind them, it will certainly help the entire picture.

Opinions are fine. Ignorance, unrealistic, unsatifiable demands are.

Come to Big Orange Country, young men. You will truly find support like none other.

All this name calling over a kid that will have to go JUCO either way. Can't each person have their own opinion? Or are we like the Islamics, who must ALL think one way or....you don't want to know.

You're welcome to your opinion dgarland; however, if you post it on a public message board, it will likely be challenged (especially when it's an asinine opinion).

We currently are 9-3 and in championship game despite playing how many bowl-bound teams? Is it 9? I saw where USM is going to one; how bout SC?

Some of you guys really crack me up! As if anything anybody says here really means anything. Sheesh!

Go Vols, beat LSU!

Hey guys, I'm a highly-recruited 4-star high school senior linebacker. I have been debating between attending UT, Florida, Notre Dame, USC, and Alabama.

It was really close. I loved things about every coaching staff, campus, and academics program for all the schools. But I'd felt the most at home at the University of Tennessee.

I was just about to call Coach Fulmer to commit, when I instead decided to read some posts on GovolsXtra.

It made me so sad. None of the other schools have angry fans, disappointed fans, or "fans" who would question their coaching staff. Who knew?

How dare you post an opinion on the internet contrary to others! We should all be of one mind - like our government!

Dadwasavol is right. I'm not smart enough to figure out where to attend on my own. I need the help of you - the anonymous internet posters. Surely you would know better than I about these things.

I will now commit to Notre Dame. I haven't heard a single complaint about how their season was coached. They know how to be fans!

Thank you, sphs_vol, for proving my point.

Oh, and by the way, look on the far left of your keyboard. That is a Caps Lock button. I think yours is on. Further proof...
