McNeil honored by SEC

Tennessee center Josh McNeil was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.

The sophomore saw action on 77 offensive snaps and had 10 knockdown blocks in Tennessee's 33-21 win at Mississippi State.

The Tennessee offensive unit had a season-high 221 rushing yards and 259 yards passing while controlling the ball for 31:39 against the Bulldogs.

The Vols offensive line prevented a quarterback sack for the fourth straight game and kept its nation-best total at two sacks allowed after seven weeks.

Oh, but it's Fulmer's fault that he wasn't national lineman of the week. And that he didn't have 20 knockdown blocks. And that we didn't win every game by 70-0. And that we aren't on national tv on Sunday afternoon instead of the NFL. And that there isn't free college tuition for all high school graduates in Tennessee. And that everyone doesn't have free health insurance. And that there isn't world peace.
Seriously, props to Josh!

dude, shutup.

I guarantee you weren't so pro-Fulmer after we lost by 39 a few weeks ago. It's funny how noone was protecting him after that embarrassment of a showing. Now we beat Ark State, Miss State, and a fairly decent UGA team and all of a sudden we're "in the driver seat" and Coach Fulmer's closet-fans come out and make fun of everyone for doing what EVERYONE was doing. We consistently have top 5-10 recruiting classes, but have recently barely been able to stay in the Top 25. That doesn't add up. Kentucky and South Carolina are doing better with 1, 2, and 3 star recruits. Don't believe me? Go check.

IIowry...I think you are a little bit over extended this morning. Don't get mad at people: Just enjoy the game and relax. It is JUST a game!! I think Josh McNeil has the makeup of the ole Tennessee lineman...TOUGH and RUGGED..Have a great day!!!!

ILowrey, you tell 'em. It is good to know that many folks have stayed positive on this site the whole time. That's people you want on your team, not the whiners.

Isn't it good to see a mean "sumbeach" on the O line? Get that mentality back and the wins will take care of themselves. Go Vols!

Volunatic writes:

jwraymond1-- you'll be here saying the exact same thing, win or lose, that's for sure.
I like the fact that Tennessee is still in the running for the SEC Championship. Will we win it? Maybe not, but there's still a lot of football left this season to determine that.
I LOVE Tennessee football, and I realize that Phil isn't going anywhere for at least the next two seasons, so I will support him and the team. Phil Fulmer is a Tennessee Volunteer through-and-through, and his record against Bama is something that we long-time Vol fans appreciate. Keep it up, Phil!
GO VOLS! Beat Bama!

I've been a Josh McNeil fan since watching him practice here in San Antonio, receiving kudos from Coach Jim Rackley of Judson. Then, he came out of the locker room last, with ice packs on his shoulder and knees, noted my Orange jacket and hat, and told me that he was going to UT. I told him that I knew, and wished him the best. As far as not posting, I just try to scan through the posts until I find one of my friends from the old site, and read what he (she in the case of pj) has to say. But some of us have had our usernames changed by KNS. Great for Josh! He'll play on Sundays! Go Vols! SAVol

RockyTop1 writes:

What whining I've read lately, why not enjoy the win and MOVE ON! We CONTROL our own destiny - still to be seen how it will all play out! Who would have thought Kentucky beats LSU? Nuff said... GO VOLS!!

jwraymond & "dude"
I've been here before this was a pay site, while it was a pay site, and now after it is a pay site. I've probably been around since you were having your mamma wipe your nose.

Went to my first Vol game in 1963. Been loyal through good times & bad. And as a LONG time fan, I am thankful for Fulmer's record against Bama. You got that right spam247buster.

I am also thankfulf for great players like Josh McNeil.

Some posters forget that in all of those highly ranked recruiting classes were some offensive lineman that were lost. Jernigan, Jeffries and Benedict (2 of them parade AA). Good to finally see a parade all-american come through!

LSU should fire their coach!!! seriously though, i can understand why there are some on here who want to see a coaching change, we have been in the second tier for some time now. but the negativity and name calling just detracts from their arguments and calls into question their love for the team, win or lose. we all want TN to win, that's why we're here... GO VOLS!!!

CoverOrange writes:

Hey Josh, could ya show Anthony Parker your highlight reel so that he understands what his job is better?

txsvol (aka SA), are you saying KNS wouldn't let you have SAVol again?

littletheyknow writes:

Do we have the best passer in the SEC, how about the best receiver, only about the 5th best rusher or so, and don't ferget about the best fans. Why don't you check all your facts before sounding like a dummy. TN would not be as good as they are without COACH FULMER he's only the best coach in the SEC. Check your records. Now, if you hate the VOLS so much find another team, most of you don't know much about football other then its played on Saturday and that UT has a team called the VOLS. This team has improved every week and thats what makes it so great. GO VOLS beat bama. UT 24 - bama 10

I'm not coming out of the woodworks. I supported Fulmer and staff then and I support them now. We lost two very tough road games that any team in the county could have lost.

Get over it haters. We have a solid football team this year and a coaching squad that will be here until they decide it's time to leave. Resign yourselves to that fact and start enjoying the season we’re having. Spread a little positive energy every once in a while. It’s fine to whine here and there but when it’s all you guys do, it gets very tired.

College football has changed over the last fifteen years but it hasn't passed this group of coaches by any more than it's passed the next coaching crew. The change is there is a great deal more parody now than ever and championships of any kind are going to be fewer and farther in between, especially in the SEC.

It’s easy to be #1 in the polls if you’re Ohio State when you don’t have one current top 20 team on your schedule for the year. That is, until they have to play a one or two loss SEC team in a bowl game that will wipe the field with them.

littletheyknow writes:

Way to go Oenoboy!!!! must be a football guy.

jdcvols#230433 writes:

We didn't just lose Oenoboy. We were embarrassed worse than cjt18 getting a physical exam and trying to explain to the nurse that it's cold in the room. And if 39 point losses and giving up over 100 points in two games can just be explained away as two tough road games, you and should just agree to disagree.
As far as Oenoboy being a "football guy," I've got another name for him, but I'll be my usual cordial self and refrain from the name calling.

Alabama week. Let's see, tide fans' mindless phrase is, "Got 12?"

Yes, Bama, we do, 12 of last 14 over you.

invisiblekid writes:

Terrific game by O'Neil and the rest of the O line. Hopefully, they find the same type of motivation, real or imagined, the rest of the season. Maybe someone can run a story that Saban plans to put 11 in the box. Wait a minute, the game is at Bama, the way some of the calls have been for their home games, let's go with Saban putting 13 in the box.
