Vols beat South Carolina in OT

Tennessee controls its destiny in the SEC East again with a thrilling 27-24 victory in overtime over South Carolina on Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.

Georgia (6-2, 4-2) is tied with UT in the SEC East after the No. 20 Bulldogs upset ninth-ranked Florida 42-30.

The Vols had control of the East until losing last week at Alabama.

What a crazy season in SEC football.

Hey guys, all the "Fulmer must go" stuff that this site has and we're looking at Florida having 3 losses IN THE CONFERENCE only a year after winning it all...supposedly the best up-and-coming QB in the nation in Tebow. Should Meyer go too?

Look I know our Vols are playing at less than par and that we haven't been great in quite a few years, but as I type this the Vols are taking control of the USCe Game. I think this site is full of a lot of emotion and TYPICAL fairweather fans. I still think a new era of coaching is due us and might give the program a jolt but I think you guys do need to recognize the parity of this season. It is so obvious and we aren't the only team suffering for it.

Phil Fulmer may be the one with the last laugh when all this is said and done.

Seriously, with such a crazy season of ups and downs and unclear dominance, what would the nay-sayers on this site say if Tennessee just happened to run the table (remember that November tradition?) and go to Atlanta. And I know I may be pipe dreaming but with this season...what if the SEC championship game pitted the Vols and LSU and we won?

How much crow will be devoured on this website?

Do you like apples?.... HOW DO YOU LIKE DEM APPLES!!! 21-0 BABY!!

Only Spurrier can turn us around. He is the only way. Let's hope TN gets blown out here and every other game so we don't go the SEC championship game and we can get a new coach.

I may like kool-aid... but I sure as heck don't want what some of you other guys are on!

utmdm writes:

Who would ever have thunk it! DEFENSE leads TN to 21 point lead!!! No let up. Keep the intensity for the full 60.

BainxGriffith writes:

bla bla bla...yes I am watching the game too. Lips and Hips has run his course. He is playing against a burned-out Spurrier for God's sake....

give it a rest man

UT is a second tier SEC team. They can not begin to stand up against Auburn, Ky, and LSU

TnVolFaninSmyrna writes:

None, and I'll tell you why. Even if we win the SEC East, and if we somehow manage to win the SEC Championship, it doesn't change the fact that this team has not played Tennessee football the past couple of years. Tennessee football is power football. Tennessee football is toughnosed defense that opposing teams fear. This team has gotten away from that type of defense. The type of defense that featured stars of day gone by; Al Wilson, Leonard Little, Hayneworth, Big John H, Deon Grant. Some will say we don't get those types of players anymore. I say hogwash. We get those types of players yearin and year out. What's changed is the caliber of coaching. We used to see guys that would fly through a brick wall to hit someone. Now we have trouble wrapping someone up game after game after game. The mentality of kids these days does not mesh well with the old-style ways of these coaches. The coaches we have are too stubborn for a change to a fault. They refuse to change their coaching philosophies to get more out of the kids we get every year. This coaching staff has done a whale of a job over the years, but times have changed. The game has changed. The kids attitude have changed. To your point about league parity I will give credence. But what can you say about Kentucky and Mississppi State and Vanderbilt. Those programs get less caliber kids than Tennessee does and yet those teams play football hard. What does that say about this program? If you can't figure that one out, then take off your orange-colored Oakleys.

vol_in_lsu_land writes:

A burned-out Spurrier? LMAO, you people will say anything to get a new coach. There isn't one university in this country that wouldn't welcome Spurrier to lead their program.

So that's going to be the mantra now? Whenever we beat someone it's cuz they have a burned-out coach. pleeeeeeeez

vol_in_lsu_land writes:

I can't believe my Vols are blowing away the Gamecocks and there are still people posting to female dog and moan.

TnVolFaninSmyrna writes:

OK, 21-0. Question is will this coaching staff choose to sit on the lead and barely hang on at the best, at worst lose, or keep their foot on the Gamecocks neck? My guess is the former not the latter.

utmdm writes:

"Spurtier" 8 quarters and no TD's. Maybe he is burned out. Har Har. Hang 2 more qtrs on him Vols.

nicksjuzunk#646117 writes:

Sing it Vol_in_lsu_land: I never thought I would see the day that we show Spurrier how to play the game and Vol fans complain.

Let's just hope that we are able to blow this game, lose to everyone else so we can get a new coach and forget all this control-your-destiny to the SEC Championship business!

Parity. Say it slowly. Parity. It has happened in college football. Southern California blew it today also. People were calling them possibly the best ever before the season... uh oh.

Look around people. This is not the type of TN football we love to see... however, this year, it may be enough to get to Atlanta.

Wow!
We actually lead for a change and all the wierdos come out to post!
Where ya been since the Bama masacare?????
You are the fairweather fans.
You make me sick!
Stay the course!
Shut up Smokey!

Well here we go again. Go Vols. If we can beat Ark. then I will feel more comfortable. SC has no offense. The truth is we can still lose 3 more games if we don't figure out how to stop someone. I can't imagine the idea of playing Ky to win the east. Vols BB is ranked one, football not ranked, Ky football ranked higher, BB lower, France talking about the need to bomb Iran. Am I asleep and this is all a dream or has the world really turned upside down???

Go Vols!

Since when did posting on a freaking website have anything to do with sincerity as a fan? I guess true fans don't go on dates, tailgate at games, or raise families. True fans sit on their oversized rear ends eating a sloppy bucket of KFC slapping a keyboard with their greasy fingers. Yeah, that's a true fan.

EHSvols23 writes:

I wonder how many people are going to want Spurrier now ? It had to have been the dumbest idea I have ever heard of, having the man who famously said "You can't spell Citrus without UT" coach OUR team. Michigan would never hire Woody Hayes, Texas would never hire Barry Switzer, I can go on and on. Let's be realistic if a new coach becomes the clear way forward.

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!

TnVolFaninSmyrna writes:

Everytime Boyd gets the ball he gets 7 yards before he's touched. Typical Chavis defense. CMON!!!!

TnVolFaninSmyrna writes:

I see we're playing Chavis-style defense again. Rush 4 drop 7 into a zone.

I don't what's worse, the fact the we BLOW a 21 pt lead or the fact that I'm not even a little surprised about it. I believe the real Tennessee has shown back up. Hopefully this will be the nail in Fulmers job.

I am glad our team is OK. I was worried someone kidnapped them before the game started, the real team and coaching staff is back. 21-21.

Chavis must have schemed the 2nd half defense to play the swiss cheese formation. There are holes everywhere in the defense. 21-21

We have quit running the ball like usual. Cutclife is a moron and no pressure from the D

VolsorCat writes:

THis is freaking unbelievable! Once again, they are getting their ASSES handed to them and have no solutions. The offense has disappeared and the defense is not even out there doing anything! Ainge just threw two passes that were not even near anyone. Knock, Knock, Knock........those are nails going in the coffin....

It's simply embarrasing to even call this a UT football team. We have talent, just NO COACHING!!!!

Did any of you hear the announcer at half... Fulmer was asked when coming back onto the field... "coach, are you afraid of a let down in the second half?", PF smiles and says, "let down, we are not going to let down!" He was right; they laid down! This is fraking pathetic! Stay the course Phil, stay the course! Why did I even turn the TV on?

how many chances do you get to control your own destiny ? plus it seems like every year we are always depending on some other team to lose to have a chance.
