Lewis is still weighing options

Jeremy Lewis is a tough prospect to figure.

On one hand, the defensive tackle from Palm Beach Lakes High School in West Palm Beach, Fla. isn’t backing off his April commitment to Miami.

“I’m still verbally committed,” the 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive tackle said.

On the other hand, he’s planning official visits to Clemson and Florida later this fall after taking an official trip to Tennessee last weekend.

“I’m just weighing out my options,” said Lewis when asked if there’s a strong No. 2 challenging the ‘Canes.

Lewis said his visit to Knoxville was “fine”, adding that he appreciated defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks’ resume, which is chock full of producing NFL players.

“Very good coaches,” Lewis said, “their tradition and names speak for themselves.”

Lewis said he enjoyed the people and environment in East Tennessee. As for a final decision, Lewis said he may wait until National Signing Day in February.

A signed scholarship is a long way from a player that only began playing football as a junior in 2006. Lewis was a basketball standout before football coaches convinced him he had a great future elsewhere.

“He’s got a lot of skill and ability,” Palm Beach coach Dan Sanso said. “He’s been pretty good. A lot of teams have to focus on him and change blocking schemes to account for him.”

As a Miami resident and life-long Vol fan, come on up to Knoxville! I just flew home today from attending the game vs. USC. That's what you will see EVERY Saturday of your career there, not a bunch of empty seats like the Orange Bowl! GO VOLS!

Yes, indeed. You could dress out for our remaining games and start. This is the truth. We need help up front. If you can tackle every now and then, you'll win a starting job.
