Lady Vols lead Las Vegas Showdown

The Tennessee Lady Vol golf team concluded the first round of the Las Vegas Showdown with a 6-under-par 282 to lead the field of 18 teams on Monday.

Senior Marci Turner shot a 5-under 67 to tie for first with Katie Kempter of Denver. The Tompkinsville, Ky., native carded six birdies at the par-72 Angel Park Golf Club.

"I am really pleased with the team's play today," head coach Judi Pavon said. "I am happy that Marci had a great round. Her game looks really good. Angela also played really well."

Sophomores Angela Oh (70) and Diana Cantu (72) also are near the top of the leaderboard, as Oh is tied for fifth and Cantu is tied for 10th.

Playing in her first tournament, freshman Rebecca Watson (73) is 19th.

Men's Golf: The No. 12 seed Vols will face off against SEC rival No. 6 seed Georgia for fifth place at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship after defeating Coastal Carolina 4-0-1 in the third round played at Reynolds Plantation Country Club in Greensboro, Ga.

Georgia and Tennessee will compete in the winners' consolation B final today.

Monday began with the completion of the second round suspended Sunday night because of darkness.

No. 4 seed UCLA took control early and did not let up as they swept all five matches from Tennessee to move on in the winners' bracket.

Philip Pettitt and Chris Paisley both defeated their Coastal Carolina opponents 1-up. Charlie Ford defeated Dan Obremski 2 and 1 to give Tennessee the decisive match.

UCLA and Georgia Tech advanced to the championship match while Florida and South Carolina will compete in the winners' consolation A final. Charlotte and Florida State play for the consolation final.

Women's Soccer: Following a week that saw her score two game-winning goals, women's soccer player Kylee Rossi has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week .
