Lady Vols start No. 1 in coaches' poll

Tennessee ended last season No. 1 in wmen's college basketball and the Lady Vols will start this season the same way.

The defending champions were voted the top team in the nation in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 coaches' preseason poll released on Wednesday.

The Lady Vols received 26 of 31 first-place votes to outdistance Connecticut in the second spot.

Rutgers, which lost to Tennessee in last season's title game, earned a third-place ranking.

Maryland is No. 4 followed by LSU, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Stanford, Duke and Georgia.
