My Guy? UT will get visit

Lawrence Guy has three schools left on his list but right now the defensive end’s main focus is on Tennessee.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Guy, from Western High School in Las Vegas, said he’s considering UT, Arizona State and Nebraska in that order.

Guy said he will take an official visit to UT on Oct. 6 to see the Vols play Georgia. If all goes well on the trip to Knoxville, Guy said he might be ready to make his college decision.

“I could see myself committing because my eyes are focused on that school only,” he said.

Guy said his reason for favoring UT is simple. He likes what it has to offer and the direction it has taken.

“They have a good education they can offer,” he said. “I can get my degree and they can help me with that. The program is growing and will be better than where it is now.”

Guy said he hasn’t paid close attention to UT’s roster to know why the Vols will be better in the future. He just knows there’s a buzz around the program.

“I’ve heard a lot about them and a lot of people have talked about them,” he said.

Guy has heard about moving from Las Vegas to UT for athletic purposes from someone who did it recently — C.J. Watson, who played basketball for the Vols from 2002-06.

Watson attended the same high school, Bishop Gorman, as Guy’s brother.

“C.J. loved it out there,” Guy said. “He said it’s a good atmosphere there. It’s a nice, comfortable place.”

Guy believes he could fit in nicely at defensive end for UT. The position has been one of concern for the Vols, especially since they didn’t record a sack in their 45-31 loss to California last Saturday.

Guy said he sees an opportunity to play early for UT, an important factor in his decision.

“I’m trying to go somewhere I can start the fastest I can and show what I can do,” he said.

A player at Guy’s size usually plays on the interior of UT’s defensive line. Guy, who said he’s been clocked at 4.77 in the 40-yard dash, said his preference is to play on the end.

Brian Murray, Guy’s head coach, said he believes Guy has the ability to play defensive end in college.

“He can chase down quarterbacks and running backs in the backfield,” Murray said. “His speed is incredible for how big he is.”

Guy said he will try to visit Arizona State and Nebraska before he visits UT. He said he will take a visit to Oklahoma on Oct. 13 because he already agreed to do so.

Lawrence, the name "ironcity" means, Birmingham, AL. He is a likely AL or Auburn fan and doesn't want you to go to TN. All the more reason to be a Vol! :)

At 6'6, 275...that is Julious Pepper comparison...I bet he could even get bigger...Just what we need a big, dominant DE.

This is Nevada's #1 prospect and is listed as a 4 Star recruit on Rivals.com. This would be a great catch for the Vols. Chavis could really use him next year.

Maybe Fulmer can get Bruce Pearl and CJ Watson to talk this "Guy" into it!!! Fulmer knows that he needs to reel in a big time d-end to compete with the top notch SEC competition.
