Florida gets commitment from nation's top-rated athlete
Florida's 2008 recruiting class received a huge boost Thursday when the Gators received a commitment from one of the nation's elite prospects.
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep quarterback/safety Will Hill announced on ESPNU on Thursday night that he will be signing with Florida in February over Southern Cal.
"I can tell you I'm going to be a Gator," Hill said before putting on a blue Gator cap and an orange tie.
"From what I've seen of Coach (Urban) Meyer and the others on the coaching staff, it's like a family (something he said was similar to his high school team)," Hill said.
Hill made an official visit to Florida for last weekend's Tennessee game. He had planned to visit Southern Cal in two weeks, but now has canceled that visit.
Hill is a five-star prospect, according to Rivals.com and Scout.com. He's rated the nation's No. 1 athlete by Rivals, while Scout ranks him the No. 1 free safety prospect in the nation.
Hill is the second prospect to commit to the Gators after visiting this past weekend, joining Orlando Boone cornerback Jeremy Brown, who gave his pledge to Florida on Sunday. Hill told the Gainesville Sun that meeting Brown last week during their respective official visits sealed the deal. They became fast friends and talked about being a part of the nation's No. 1 secondary, Hill said.
Florida has commitments from eight prospects.
