Brian may be sensitive, but he's King Caller

For many in the southeast, this would be a good time to be compared to Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

Not Brian.

Not now.

"Never compare me with anyone from Florida," said Brian, the all-too-sensitive winner of the News Sentinel's King Caller contest. "Tebow did a great job (against Tennessee), but no! You can call me a Fred White."

Just another example of Brian's wisdom in the contest.

Sure, Tebow may be stronger, faster and tougher than White, but White lives closer than Tebow, is meaner than Tebow and, therefore more likely to lay a beating on any Vol fan who compares himself to a Gator.

Once again, rumors of intimidation mar the King Caller contest.

Brian is well aware that White - a former UT hard-hitting safety with a national championship ring - lives in Knoxville and serves as a regular co-host on The Sports Page.

Brian dominated the finals, beating Bill No. 2 with 67 percent of the vote.

"I thought I did pretty well," Brian said.

Both contestants were asked last Friday what UT needed to do to beat Florida. Little did they know that it was a trick question. There is no beating Florida.

"I wish I would have won on a Vols' winning note," Brian said.

That should console the Big Orange Nation.

Brian claimed that UT's tight ends would have to turn in a big day for the Vols to claim victory in The Swamp. Senior tight end Chris Brown answered Brian's call with four receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.

"I wish Chris Brown had picked up a little more than just one touchdown," Brian said.

Yeah, that would've helped. Maybe UT's tight ends could also play defense?

Brian re-confirmed his desire to donate the prize winnings to a soldier serving in the armed forces.

"Obviously, we wouldn't be able to have the opportunity to sit here and speak freely without them," Brian said. "Obviously, that's the best way to go."

Brian said he'll work with the News Sentinel to make sure a deserving soldier takes home the booty, which includes a La-Z-Boy recliner and an autographed football from the contributors on The Sports Page, with an estimated value well into the tens of thousands.

"Hopefully," Brian said, "working with you guys, we can find a good way to get that in someone's more deserving hands."

What Brian doesn't know is that sports editor John Adams heads up the News Sentinel's prize distribution department.

"I was a reporter in the

national guard," Adams stated in a release. "I should at least be considered for any prizes awarded.

"I'm obviously the reason that show exists and thrives beyond comprehension!"

Stay tuned.

I read the story again. I still have no idea what in the blue blazes he's talking about. On the positive side, I don't think anyone can complain about UT or demand that the coaches be fired on this post. Sweet relief. Breathe. Ah yes...
