The Tennessee women's soccer team added a victory to its unbeaten streak .
The streak reached four matches as the Lady Vols concluded non-conference play with a 2-1 victory over North Carolina-Greensboro on Friday night at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Emily Redberg and Mick Imgram scored for No. 13 Tennessee (5-1-1) which returns home to host No. 10 South Carolina on Thursday.
"I think we showed a better rhythm up top, especially in the second half,'' UT coach Angela Kelly said. "We had a better work rate and more productivity out of our forwards in this game than we have all season. That's exciting because we've been focusing on the defensive side of the ball and now we're starting to get some rhythm up top. That's great going into conference play."
All of the scoring came in the second half. Redberg scored in the 69th minute, after the second of consecutive corner kicks by Tennessee. The ball found the foot of midfielder Leslie Vineyard, who touched the ball to forward Kylee Rossi on the right side of the box. Ross sent a cross to Redberg, who scored from the middle of the box.
"I didn't have to do much of the work on the goal,'' Redberg said. "Leslie sent a great ball to Kylee and she sent a perfect cross to me."
Midfielder Imgram scored the game winner on a blast past Spartans' goalkeeper Katherine Ryan. The goal was Imgram's second of the season, increasing her point total to a team-high six.
Kristen Player scored in the 90th minute for Greensboro, squeezing a shot inside the post off a corner kick. Her score was the lone goal allowed by UT in its last 457 minutes of play.
"Getting a win going into SEC play is very important to give us momentum and prepare us for the conference season and the tough league teams,'' Redberg said.
Volleyball: After dropping the first game, the Tennessee Lady Vols rallied for a 27-30, 30-28, 30-25, 30-27 SEC victory at Auburn (9-5, 1-2 SEC).
Leah Hinkey led Tennessee (7-3, 2-1) with team highs for kills (16) and blocks (seven)
Nikki Fowler had 15 kills and Mindy Flynn 13. Chloe Goldman had a team-high 19 digs. Jenna Berg had 17.
"Winning on the road in the SEC is always a terrific accomplishment, so I am happy that we were able to pull out a victory tonight,'' UT coach Rob Patrick said. "I was disappointed, however, in the number of unforced errors that we had, which made this match a lot tougher than it should have been."
UT plays at Georgia Sunday.
