Sarah Bowman and the Tennessee women's cross country team were almost in lock step with each Friday at the finish line of Lehigh University's Brooks Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
Bowman covered the 6,000-meter Goodman Campus course in 20 minutes, 51 seconds to finish ninth in a field of 317 runners.
"Sarah ran a very similar race today to what Katie Flaute ran in taking eighth last season,'' UT coach J.J. Clark said.
Bowman led the Lady Vols to an eighth-place finish in a field of 47 teams with 281 points.
Princeton, which had 45 points, won for the second consecutive year.
After Bowman, Katie Van Horn was UT's next-best finisher, placing 16th in 21:03. There was a big dropoff after that, however, to Brittany Sheffey, who finished 66th in 22:03.
"Obviously we have to have a closer spread than that,'' Clark said. "We did have a couple of bright spots in Sarah and Katie. The whole idea is to get five or six running well at the same time, and that's what we will continue to work on doing."
The Lady Vols' next race is the Penn State National Invitational Oct. 12, at University Park, Pa.
Women's Tennis: The Tennessee doubles team of Ghizela Schutte and Rosalia Alda won two matches and advanced to the flight three championship at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
Four Lady Vols - Caitlin Whoriskey, Zsofia Zubor, Samantha Orlin and Alda - all won singles matches, too.
