Pitcher/DH McCray commits to Vols

Young Harris College is becoming a baseball pipeline to the University of Tennessee.

Stephen McCray, a pitcher/designated hitter from Lilburn, Ga., has committed to play for the Vols in 2009.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound McCray will join teammate Michael Hornsby at UT. The middle infielder committed earlier this month.

As a freshman, McCray hit .358, with 13 doubles, nine home runs, and 65 runs batted in. The right-hander had a 9-2 record and 2.58 earned-run average as a freshman with 89 strikeouts in 106 innings.

"Stephen has done an outstanding job for Young Harris College. He is a great person, outstanding student, and a quality baseball player. He will do well at the University of Tennessee," Young Harris coach Rick Robinson said.

McCray is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Baltimore outfielder Nick Markakis, who set hitting and pitching records at Young Harris in 2002-03 and became a first-round draft pick of the Orioles.

I have to say, I'm impressed with Coach Raliegh.

I was more than a little skeptical when he was first hired, but he seems like a coach that knows what it's like to come from a nothing program at Western Carolina that he had to build himself, so he knows how to work.

Unlike Delmonico who thought that baseball revolves around him.

Not sure how this season will go in baseball but I like the direction of it so far, plus the fact we are recruiting guys that Delmonico would never touch.

Coach Raliegh is the real deal and is excited about being the HC of Tennessee Baseball. Now let not forget and support the BaseVols this spring!

I'm so excited about Coach Raleigh and what he's bringing to the team. Apparently, recruits like him as well, it seems as though they are lining up one after another to come and player for him and coach Corral.
