The Tennessee Lady Vols rode mighty momentum to an doubleheader sweep of Liberty on Tuesday at Lee Softball Stadium.
Sophomore Tiffany Huff went 3-for-3 and tied her season-high with four RBIs to lead 11th-ranked UT to an 8-2 win in the opener.
"Sweeping Georgia (last weekend) was a confidence builder,'' Huff said. "We had to fight and play hard in every one of those games, and we need to keep doing that. It's critical right now.''
UT senior Megan Rhodes (18-4) struck out five.
Tonya Callahan sparked the Lady Vols (38-7) to a 7-1 win over the Flames (7-24-1) in the nightcap. The senior All-American had three RBIs and her team-leading 12th home run of the season.
"I think Callahan is the most consistent player I've coached in my 23 years,'' said Ralph Weekly, who along with his wife, Karen, serves as co-head coach. "She brings it every day - she's just a dream player.''
Callahan, like Huff, suggested there's a different mindset after the Lady Vols' series-sweep over then-No. 14 Georgia.
"It's the second half of the SEC season, and we started it with a sweep,'' said Callahan, who's hitting .450 with an .850 slugging percentage. "This is what we need to do; put runs on the board and make it a continuation of that series.''
Weekly said the Lady Vols have plenty to play for when they bring a seven-game win streak in today's doubleheader against Western Carolina starting at 4 p.m. at Lee Softball Stadium.
"Now, every game we play outside the conference is a seeding game,'' said Weekly, who has led UT to three consecutive trips to the Women's College World Series. "I thought we got our speed game back on track tonight, with nine stolen bases in the game, we hit pretty well and our pitching was solid.''
UT freshman Ashton Ward (20-3) scattered four hits in the second game.

Way to go, LV! This year we'll get the National Championship after being close for three years!
How about considering scheduling Liberty at their place here in VA so we can cheer them on in person?
