Wow! Ask me which daughter I prefer over the others! Every one of these will always have a special place in Lady Vols history! They each represent a different era, at different positions, with different demands and competition. If forced to choose...I would wimp out. Tamika and Chamique were arguably the TWO best to play on one team. Holly helped lay the foundation for all the greatness to come. Nikki and Bridgette made the Lady Vols a household name. Daedra was the gold standard for toughness at the post position. However, as a TOTAL package, I think would finally come down for Candace. Twenty years from now, she will be one of the first two or three names to come to mind on a poll like this.

They have all been special, but Candace Parker is the only one who could truly do it all. Her smoothness sometimes seemed diminish her greatness because she made it look so easy. When she went for a rebound, she did not make it dramatic, she made it secure. When she dribbled, it was not labor, it was poetry in motion. Her shot was effortless and smooth. She always knew what was going on all over the court, so her passes were true, and like the one she made to win over LSU, amazingly accurate. Even though Anosike got hit and missed the shot, giving Hornbuckle the opportunity to be the hero, it was a perfect pass off an all-out dribble with all the pressure of winning or losing the game which would send them home or to the championship game. To me, it was the play of the year. And, oh yea, the matter of playing two and a half games with one arm after suffering such a tramatic event on her arm.
Candace Parker has been nothing short of amazing. I am thankful and proud she chose Tennessee. I only wish she would be here one more year. Thanks for the memories, Candace, and all the Lady Vols!

I think it's obviously Holtzclaw.

Parker is a good player and would probably be second.

Holdsclaw by a mile. She won 3 titles in a row and would have won a fourth if not for a bad shooting night in 1999 against Duke.

John, which daughter do you prefer over the others? ;-)

Holdsclaw all the way! Who voted for Daedra Charles BTW? C'mon now!

Kingsport, I heard Ainge was getting implants, finally. Not sure what kind, but I think you made it obvious...lol

Now that's funny Greer.

I vote for TommyJack.

Candace stands out to me and Holdsclaw is second but very close. Candace has her head and heart in order where Holdsclaw I questioned after reading her book. I wonder how we kept her at Tennessee after the first year.

GO LadyVols....the only truly OUTSTANDING sports program at TENNESSEE!! I love them all but facts are FACTS!!

knoxnewsuser, consider this: If Mique's team had played defense like Candace's team did against A&M, LSU and Stanford, she would have had the chance to play for her 4th National title. The '99 team had an off-night scoring the ball, including Mique; offensive deficiency became devastating when her team could not get stops against the fired up Dookies (Alana Beard), who were defeated by Purdue in the title game.

If Mique had completed her academic responsibilities in her junior year, she would have fulfilled her promise to her beloved grandmother and been welcomed with open arms by the WNBA forgoing her senior year. She could have perhaps avoided the embarrassing sad ending to her college career.

Nevertheless, Chamiqua Holdsclaw was the greatest of greats in her era. Yes, she could and did play all 5 positions. She was fluid smooth shooting, passing, rebounding, could absolutely score in bunches in a New York second. She had the supporting cast in her junior and senior year, for sure, but as a huge contributor to the '96 & '97 championship teams she received numerous accolades despite enduring her share of adversity.

One might safely say, without #23 the Lady Vols would be two titles shy of today's collection of NC trophies. Also absent from the TBA rafters, two glorious banners and an historic retired jersey.

Let us not forget, #23 has multiple ESPYs, Female Athlete of the Year, Honda Broderick Cup Award (twice), cover girl for SLAM magazine, ESPN the Magazine, challenged to a one on one by King Michael Jordan, 6 30+ games as a junior, 110 steals, averaged 23+ ppg and 8.4 rpg in a perfect 39-game undefeated season scoring in double figures in 38 games. Just SOME of the reasons she is still the best of the best in the college game.

That's interesting, RockyTop, her emotional unrest quickly showed it's sad face in her pro career. stress injuries one right after another plagued her game. She just never seemed content on or off the court. She stated often how she did not like the demands her whirlwind lifestyle had placed on her. She was such a private person and was soon overcome by the never-ending pressures in her world. It's sad for her fans, including myself who loved to watch her play, but for Chamiqua's sake, I hope she is finally happy in her life. She provided four highlight years for Lady Vol fans, and consistently drew record setting attendance at road games and at TBA.

Holdsclaw, with Candace a very close 2nd, or you could go the other way, and be justified, they were both GREAT as Lady Vols.

Gen.Fritter: No way. Can't go to my left.

TJ, can't go to your left? Good! Thanks for being a fine republican.

How is Brittany Jackson not even on this list???......Oh wait...it said "greatest" not "hottest"...my bad...

Posted by volntx on April 10, 2008 at 4:01 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I think they are equally gifted players and great Lady Vols but...Holdsclaw would get the edge with 4 years and 3 Titles, one extra of each. She did have fellow nominee Catchings on her team, which didn't hurt the Lady Vols overall performance.

Posted by LadyVolFanForever on April 10, 2008 at 4:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Just take a look at that list and remember how very fortunate we are to be Lady Vols fans !!

Candace gets my vote. She is the best all-round player with the skills and she is intent on learning more and improving those skills.

When Coach Summitt said Candace was the best she had ever coached, who are we to disagree ?

Posted by sbcheek on April 10, 2008 at 4:38 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Why did I vote for Ms. Holdsclaw? More championships and she didn't leave early for the pros.

Posted by rockytopron on April 10, 2008 at 5:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Great list of great players. No other school can boast having that kind of talent for that many years.
My Ranking
Chamique Holdsclaw - 3 titles, All time scoring leader and even if Parker plays another season she wouldn't have come close, All time rebounder and garnered more awards.

Candace Parker - Greatest athlete in women's basketball history! 2 Titles, numerous awards that we all know about.

Tamika Catchings - so far, the greatest pro from the list, 1 title, but would have been two had she not gotten injured her senior year.

We are blessed to be Vol fans! Too bad too many people can't see that and can only be negative.

Posted by andefromtn on April 10, 2008 at 5:43 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Every name on that list brought something unique to the Lady Vols. They each gave their all to the programs and that is why we, as fans, enjoy and love the Lady Vols like we do. Thanks to each and every player won has worn Big Orange.

Bridget, Candance and Chamique are my three greatest Lady Vols. Now out of those three who do you pick? Bridget was old school, no three point shot nor as much high tec shoes and frills of today's game. She could shoot and when Pat chewed her ear she was known to play a little defense. Yet because of the amount of time that has pass and the way the game has changed it is doubtful many will consider her the greatest.

Comparing Candance and Chamique is a toss up. Both these women gave their very best to the Lady Vols, as most Lady Vols do. They were the best of the era when they played college ball. I would love to see those two in a one on one game. When it was over I think the winner would be only one shot over the other and I think that winner would be Candance.

Posted by bernardking on April 10, 2008 at 5:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It is close between Chamique and Candace. I call it a tie. I haven't heard much about Nikki McCray yet. She was, by far, the best pro so far, with Tamika a close second. Nikki was THE best player in the ABL which was actually a better league than the WNBA before it folded and merged with the WNBA.

I think it would be difficult to name a Lady Vols all time starting five, but here goes anyway:

Chamique Holdsclaw
Candace Parker
Bridgette Gordon
Tamika Catchings
Nikki McCray

TommyJack - can't go left....are you for Obama or Hilary? I do think Saturday Night Live would flourish if Hilary gets back in the White House.
Here's is what I want to know. Will Hilary have male interns? If not, will Bill be allowed free reign in the White House? Or, will Hilary ship Bill abroad the screw the French? If Obama gets elected, the world will be free of all problems. Just watch his ad.

Chamique Holdsclaw, without a doubt.

Eric Ainge and Casey Clausen share the award ! Go Vols !

Posted by ggriggs939 on April 10, 2008 at 8:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Who could know better than Pat Summitt who said Candace was the best.
This is making a comparison of so many variables
such as teammates, competition, condition of athletes, physical strength, and others.
The Meeks were the best team, but how would they have fared had they been in another team?
Who was the best defensive tackle that played on the Hill? The popular vote goes to Reggie White, but the record goes to Dick Huffman whom most of you are not aware of. He made All America, then Rookie of the year and All Pro for his five years in the Pros. But he has been black-balled by the Pros because he went to Canada to get more money and isd in the hall of fame there.

Posted by IPOrange on April 10, 2008 at 9:11 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Holdsclaw, without a doubt. Candace is a heckuva player too, though.

Posted by IPOrange on April 10, 2008 at 9:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Hey, I was the 1000th person to vote for Holdsclaw. What do I win?

Posted by bricker865 on April 10, 2008 at 10:43 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm starting my own poll. Who is the cutest lady Vol of all time?

Posted by jsc1973 on April 10, 2008 at 11:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Chamique Holdsclaw. Hands down. Three national championships and one really bad game from having a fourth. Candace would have had a chance to be right up there with her if she stayed one more season, but I don't blame her for leaving. Bridgette Gordon would be third.

"I'm starting my own poll. Who is the cutest lady Vol of all time?"

That one's easy too. Michelle Marciniak.

Posted by bricker865 on April 11, 2008 at 12:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That's a good choice, but I was thinking the blonde (name escapes me) from just a few short year ago who did some modeling. She and Sarah Edwards (Sevierville). As far as playing, how about Bridgette Gordon?

Posted by BillVol on April 11, 2008 at 12:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Do we have a source that proves Pat called Candace the greatest ever at UT?

Posted by andefromtn on April 11, 2008 at 12:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Bricker, now I am sitting here trying to remember all the blonde Lady Vols....Jolly, Marciniak, Scott, Jackson and others. As far as cutest is concerned Candance is no ugly ducking in this department either. She was of People's Most Beautiful People last year. Some say she could write her ticket as a model.

Posted by bricker865 on April 11, 2008 at 8:56 a.m. (Suggest removal)

It was Jackson that I was tring to think of. Thanks for reminding me. Candace is cute also I agree.

Bricker, don't forget Lisa Harrison....was considered by Playboy to be the hottest female athelete a few years ago.

Showing her class, she turned down their offer to pose.

I was on the Hill at the same to time she was here and she was a gorgeous lady!

BillVov, Pats' quote was in several news pieces last weekend. I have read so many I do not remember exactly where it was but I think one place was a post or pre game interview that you may still be able to get at www.ncaa.com

Posted by volboy81 on April 11, 2008 at 4:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Thats a tough question...so many players, so little room at the top!
yes BillVol, Pat called Candace the best to ever play at Tennessee. Tamika and Cham. would be close too. Holly Warlick, Jill Rankin and Cindy Brogdon would be up near the top too, but I date myself! :)
anyone who plays womens basketball for Tennessee HAS to be great!

Posted by mparker on April 14, 2008 at 12:08 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I don't like this poll at all. Not fair to judge players from diff times and teams. Chamique was tough, so is Candace. You aren't seeing them on the floor together.

To me, that's like 'who is better, larry bird or labron james'.
