Soccer team signs seven for 2008 class

The coaching staff of the Tennessee Lady Vols soccer team obviously spent some time recruiting in middle Tennessee and Gainesville, Fla.

Of seven 2008 signess, three come from the Nashville/Murfreesboro/Shelbyville area and two from the home town of the Florida Gators.

“We’re very excited about our 2008 incoming class,” UT coach Angela Kelly said. “In this particular class I feel we have a tremendous amount of athleticism combined with soccer knowledge and experience which can be a lethal combination.”

The in-state signees consist of Lara Langworthy (Brentwood Academy), Hannah Martin (Shelbyville Central) and Brittney Winn (Siegel).

Other signees are: Emily Dowd (Gainesville), Emily Shore (Gainesville), Chelsea Hatcher (Cincinnati, Ohio), Hannah Hut (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

Dowd scored 163 goals in her career at Gainesville High School. Hatcher and Shore joined Dowd at the IMG Soccer Academy, currently the No. 1-ranked club team in the country.

“We’re counting down the days until we can get all seven young women onto campus,” Kelly said.

The seven signees will join 15 returning letterwinners for Tennessee as well as five redshirt freshmen on next fall’s squad. The Lady Vols will be looking to earn their sixth consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

I'd sign all mid-fielders and run a 3-5-2.
