Orange and White Game information

Tennessee wraps up its spring practice April 19 with the annual Orange and White Game at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Festivities begin with the annual Fans Day autograph and photo session from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Because of construction at the stadium, Fans Day has been moved to Haslam Field practice facility located between the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center and Lindsey Nelson Stadium baseball field. Fans should enter Haslam Field from Pat Head Summitt Drive and receive their Fan Pac of Vols football information.

Tennessee players and staff will be dispersed at various locations on the two practice field areas. The offensive and defensive players will be grouped by position and UT coach Phillip Fulmer will be in an autograph line in order to facilitate as many autographs as possible in the time provided.

The Vol Walk begins at 1, finishing down Peyton Manning Pass with the team entering Neyland Stadium through the south tunnel because of construction in the Gate 21 area.

Fans entering the stadium should do so through Gates 1-10.

All university event parking lots are available, with the exception of Lot 9 or the G10 garage, which are reserved parking.

The Orange and White Game will be televised a day later by SportSouth at 7 p.m.

Carr To Get Neyland Award: The East Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will hold its awards brunch on April 19 at the Foundry. The brunch begins at 10:30 a.m.

Primary awards to be presented are the Gen. Robert R. Neyland Trophy to former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr and the Distinguished American Award to former SEC commissioner Roy Kramer. In addition, amateur football awards are being presented to LaTain McGhee, Oakie Pickard, George Quarles, Gary Rankin and Bill Wilson.

Those interested in attending the brunch should contact Tyler Johnson in the UT Athletics Department at 865-974-1219.

Hamilton's plan for next year - start charging for O&W game.

141 days is plenty of time for Hamilton to install pay toilets in Neyland Stadium.

yawn....status quo 17,000 will show up as Hamilton is trying to figure out how to get more people to come the O & W game and buy more popcorn for next year's game.

nafslov - for $20.00 I'll rely on your report.

Do like hearing no colored jersey on the QBs!

What? No fastest Smokey contest?

The game used to be a lot of fun.Of course that was the mid and late 90's when other things were different as well.

For $20 I'll just wait until the following Sunday and watch it on CSS.

They did chagre $5 for the game a few years back. Which wasn't bad but I'm glad they stopped.

As for fan day, it's great for kid's but as a grown man I have no desire to walk up to 18-22 year old kids and ask for an autograph.

Let the games begin on our way to the National Championship.

$20 to watch a Fulmer coached Spring Game is a bargain.

Why is he not charging? Seems like another way to generate some cash.

I gess some who live near knoxville think it's no big deal, maybe to joke about, but some live miles away how would love to be there. I'm disabled too, the travel would be hard. Never take for granted getting to see the O&W game live.

I say hold out Crompton, divide the squad up evenly (let the O & D coordinators be HC's for a day and chose up sides) and play a real football game! That would be worth $20.00. A controlled scrimmage should be free!

20.00 to see the O & W? You are either trying to generate responses in this forum during the slow season or are not a donor and season ticket holder. Give 1500.00 in donations to get 2 season tickets and you'll think the O & W should be free and they should toss in 2 dogs.

Instead of the VASF BBQ day during the season they should have VASF 'double dog' day at the O & W for members. Call it 'Remember Smokey MTN Market' days for those of us who have followed the VOLS for 20 to 30 + years. 7 have eaten SMM dogs in the glory days of the campus b4 franchise restaurants took over.

I would pay double. The greatest coach on the planet will be 1-0 after this game.Go Big Orange!

You can't see the replay in Nashville without an ugly dish on your house. I wish the Vols would go back to Comcast.

Wait. I live in MD. Smoky Mountain Markets are all gone? What a travesty. I remember going there and getting the dogs myself. Three for a buck. Oh well. I hope I can order the O&W from Sports south and see it up here.

Posted by LadyVolsEighTimes on April 14, 2008 at 8:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Actually Fulmer will be 1-1 after this game. I agree with NCVol on this one, we pay enough already for the Vols, to be charged for this game.

Any more youdon't judge a true Vols fan by how loud they cheer, or how much orange they wear, not even how loyal they are when the Vols stink up the place, nope, any more Vols Fans are judged on how deep their pockets are.

does anyone know what time CSS will run the O&W game?

15.00 to not drink beer and go see a game, or 15.00 to stay home and drink beer. College kids have it so rough now having to carry their laptops ($1000) and their recording devices ($50), and wearing their name brand shoes ($150) and driving around in a piece of junk with 24" wheels ($2000). Give me a break. This will weed out the kids who grab up the tickets and don't show. Pity em'? If they spend as much time studying as they do whining, in a few years they will be in the luxury boxes. And not complaining about those prices.

wjackson 6:50am - I salute you. PPV for the O&W. You, sir, are a true Fan. I live 100 miles away and can't talk my three buds into going. Period.

Free Bud Lite won't lure them. All together they must have $2500.00 worth of Vol gear and have spent probably $30,000.00 traveling to games over the years. But, now, they say the fire is out. Won't budge. Geezers all.

I'm driving up from LA, and Fulmer is 1-0 so far in '08. Its all good. Geaux Vawls!

Hamilton just made the students pay for season tickets in addition to the UT athletic fee.

Don't worry .. Hamilton will get your money.

Keep paying boys ... keep paying.

This will make year 2 I don't make a home game.

Stay the course.

40-something dollars for a seat at Neyland Stadium, but you have to pay $15 extra if you actually want to sit in it.

Posted by 99gator on April 14, 2008 at 1:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

ticket prices will only continue to go up and up.

better get used to it.

what do you suppose would happen to ticket prices if tenn started bringing home championships again?

Posted by pdhuff on April 14, 2008 at 1:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99gator - 1:21pm -only that we could ever find out what would happen to ticket prices in that situation.

Gen Fritter did tell me that pigs fly sometimes.

I wonder if we can have Gen F, Kingsport, and Dupree put on a buck-dancin' exhibition during the Vol Walk? Just a thought.....

Posted by GerryOP on April 14, 2008 at 2:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99gator, the same thing that will happen if UT continues to not bring home championships. However, winning championships will reduce the time it will take for Coach Fulmer to achieve his PERSONAL goal of exceeding General Neyland's number of wins. And the teachin' and mentorin' will continue.

Posted by 99gator on April 14, 2008 at 2:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

gerry op

the comment about "winning championships" was not meant to be derogatory.

the point ties into what you said. they are raising prices anyway.

imagine what they would charge coming off an sec title or national title.

college ticket prices will continue to go insane due to supply and demand.

florida has about 65,000 alumni tickets. unlike the nfl, it's not the city population that get tickets...it's the entire state population. and in florida's case, there are even folks from georgia that travel for games.

i imagine tenn has alumni from ky, ga, nc, sc, al, atc, in addition to tenn that travel for games.

i only hate the fact that they make an excuse when they raise prices instead of being honest and stating that they are raising prices.....because they can.

because that's the real reason. i am sure tenn is not hurting for money.

Posted by GerryOP on April 14, 2008 at 2:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99gator, I did not take your comment about winning championships to be derogatory. But your point, which I agree with, is that as long as people are willing to pay -- win, lose, or draw -- they will continue to raise prices -- because they can. The principles of Econ 101 have not changed since I took the course in 1961 -- supply vs. demand.

The problem lies in the fact that we see ourselves as emotional fans whereas athletic departments, including yours, sees us as merely consumers. Coach Fulmer is paid to fill the stadium -- in addition to teachin' and mentorin' -- and winning is only important if fans start staying away.

BTW, gator99, did you folks ever replace the croc' on the cover of your football press kit with a 'gator? Just funnin' ya'!

Posted by pdhuff on April 14, 2008 at 2:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99gator - they may be hurting. I think they only took in 92 mil and spent 89 mil. They'll be on Beanie-Weenies afore long at that rate.

Got a 12th place finish, a round of 16 and a Natl Championship from their best coach. Pat Summit wears the ring and hoisted the Grail.

by the way, i am surprised that none of you all who may have seen the florida spring game on espn are on a rant today.....

the espn boys....corso and herby....said and i believe i am quoting them correctly....."tenn will not be a factor in the SEC race"

that was bulletin board material for big orange country, if fulmer believes in that kind of stuff. even worse, corso predicted south carolina as his favorite.

Posted by 99gator on April 14, 2008 at 2:55 p.m. (Suggest removal)

favorite in the east that is (sc)

Posted by GerryOP on April 14, 2008 at 3 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99gator, sir, our Coach Fulmer is well above bothering with that kind of nonsensical comment. Dean of SEC coaches, 15 years, '98 NC, work like heck, stay the course, etc.

Posted by TommyJack on April 14, 2008 at 3:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99: Didn't see the FL thing. But if Corso and Herby said that, I'm feeling better about our team already.
SC? Please.

Posted by bigbluevol on April 14, 2008 at 3:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

99, I did see that. Like TJ, I had the same feeling. Herbstreit just dismissed us and Corso added, "They lost Cutcliffe, too." It was tremendously insightful. For whatever reason Tennessee has long fared better when not much is expected of them.

folks, the game is free, why on earth are you all complaining, and chatting about fees, charging forthe game , etc. Enjoy it, life isnt perfect, this University does quite a bit for its students, check around...

Dave Clawson's offensive phiposophy is...think players, not plays...think in terms of the skill sets of players, not in terms of plays to be called in certain situations. Are there any other Division One Offensive Coordinators or Head Coaches who coach with this philosophy and, if so, how have they fared?

TJ, I guess a man's seatmates would balk at one opening a can of sardines in an warm afternoon tilt.

Some people take a dim view of everthing, even if you offer their wives a Possum Sardine. Very narrow minded......

Before they banned umbrella's and ciggy's, Fletch used to delight in burning little round holes in the brelly dumping water on him. Usually they didn't even notice. Till they went to use it again.
