Former Gamecock Jackson found dead

Former South Carolina and current Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive player Jamacia Jackson has died after he was found unconscious in his girlfriend's home in Sumter, S.C. He was 26.

Jackson's girlfriend couldn't wake him up Monday and he was pronounced dead at the hospital, said his stepmother, Cleo Jackson.

A cause of death was not immediately known and the Sumter County coroner's office didn't return a phone call from The Associated Press.

Jamacia Jackson had been living with his family in South Carolina and training at his alma mater, Sumter High School, before returning to Canada for the upcoming season. Cleo Jackson said her stepson had been in good health and had lifted weights on Saturday.

Jamacia Jackson played safety and on special teams for South Carolina from 2001-04.

Walker Discusses Identity Disorder: Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker once played Russian roulette with a loaded pistol as he struggled with a personality disorder.

"To challenge death like I was doing, you start saying, there's a problem here," he said during an interview broadcast Monday night on ABC's "Nightline."

Walker suffers from dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder.

The 46-year-old Walker says he had the condition during his playing days but didn't realize it. He doesn't remember winning the Heisman in 1982 or darker events, such as threatening his then-wife.

Walker has been in treatment for eight years but doesn't take medication. He believes he has improved greatly.

Do you find it ironic that his illness causes him not to remember things yet he can tell us he has improved greatly!?! If he can't remember things then he probably isn't the best person to determine if he is getting better! I'm sure he is right and I hope he recovers fully. I really enjoyed watching him run. He had so much size but looked like a gazelle out there running. He was one of the good guys.

I remember an article about Herschel Walker in Sports Illustrated from early in his NFL career. When he reported for training camp, he was handed a workout guide, just like the other rookies, that included a weightlifting regimen. He told them that he had never lifted weights. Since junior high, his workouts had only consisted of doing pushups and situps, and running sprints. Can you imagine reaching that size doing only situps and pushups?

Anyway, he was told, "You're with the Cowboys now, son. Everybody lifts". He performed the lifting like he was told until a few days later when they measured body fat on the team using the swimming pool device. When his body fat came back at something inhuman, like <5%, they told him, "Just keep doing you're own workout. You'll be fine".

Goodvol, maybe he thinks he has improved because he CAN remember things now! He was truly one of the most impressive athletes I have ever seen. He also seemed like a really good guy. Just goes to show that we can never know what REALLY goes on in a person's mind. I'm glad to know that he is better now.

I do wish that the KNS would separate out these various news reports or at least indicate that a "story" is actually a compilation and/or newswire. What do Bruce Springsteen tickets have to do with Jackson's death? Or Herschel Walker's depression?

The Springsteen story looks like a paragraph might have been deleted. I see nothing that mentions the cost of tickets for the Husker spring game.

Ah, that crack staff at GoVols.com.

BOJ: Walker was a "natural athlete" and not one born of magic potions and weightrooms. Doug Atkins never lifted weights excepting the 200+ pound players he once tossed around. Penn St. didn't have a weightroom when Jack Hamm graduated. Wholesale weight training is a relatively recent phenomenon.

Larry Allen (OT Cowboys ret.) who had a butt you could set a full coffee cup on & not spill a drop once said that he loved blocking guys who built their bodies in the weightroom. "When the 4th quarter rolls around I own em. They're gassed. They got nothin'."

Why in the hell would you even put a paragraph in this article about Springsteen tickets?! You talk about the tragic death of a person, and then jump into ticket broker prices.

Deleted paragraph or not, that doesn't seem even a remotely necessary topic to be included in this article.

Myabe Bruce Springsteen is the one who killed Jackson. That's why his tickets are so cheap. Wow, Walker has had treatment for 8 years but doesn't take medication. And when reached for comment. He was quoted as saying "What disorder? Who are you guys?"
