I'd like to see one of the fritter pounders under center. And I'd like to see the entire o-line give them some lookout blocks.

If the choice is between Berry and Jones, I'm surprised so many have chosen Berry. Jones has a much better arm. Va Tech and a few other schools recruited him as a QB.

What is up with these stupid polls? They are meaningless. If the question was something about which the fans opinions' might actually matter, I could understand it.

Hmmm. Nothing new here actually guys...we've been asking this question as a fan base since Casey Clausen graduated. Ainge or Shaeffer, Ainge or R. Clausen...last couple of years its been very vocal Ainge supporters vs equally rabid Crompton fans.
I pull for whoever is in there.

Every time I get so POed that I swear I am not coming back to this web site responses like the ones here keep me coming back - truly witty and funny. BTW I have been preaching Nick Stevens at QB for two years, evidently the coaches don't give a dern (new cowboy slang to replace dang).

Go Vols!

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Crompton step in and be great. If he does, we are contenders for the whole thing. Because he has been in the backup role, we don't really know how good he is. If he has Peyton's work ethic or adopts it, we will be fine. I wish I we could get an honest evaluation of his skill set..........

Since we have a senior RB and several skilled RB's in reserve our main focus should be to find a QB who doesn't throw interceptions but can move the ball some when needed.
From what I hear from practice that would be Nick Stephens who has yet to throw an interception yet. Our running game should be our focus this year not finding a QB who needs to make plays happen when there aren't any.
I'll like to give Crompton a chance but if he continues to throw INT's in games we need to put the ball in hands of a QB who isn't going to turn it over.

Well let's see. The last TN national championship winning QB didn't have an accurate arm but could run. Ummm - seems like most of the recent NC winners had a QB that could run when necessary. So I vote for whichever one can run when his world is crumbling down around him.

McFly don't you have to find a running back?
drone, what do you mean Martin didn't have an accurate arm? Are you talking about the quarterback that set an NCAA record of 23 consecutive in a game in the 1998 South Carolina? Granted, Martin's 55 percent completion average pales in comparison next to Peyton, Ainge, Casey Clausen and others, but it wasn't as if he hit 30 perecent of his passes. I'll take a mobile quarterback that creates problems for a defense with his legs and completes a smaller percentage of his passes and wins over the high percentage guy that has doesn't.

The question is not fully phrased. Crompton as the regular with packages for Jones & Berry.
Tee Martin was special because the more pressure there was in a game situation the better he played.
And he had a big arm that could get the ball downfield. But despite that great game against Carolina you could not characterize him as a very accurate passer.
But like Bobby Scott earlier when it came to crunch time he could get you in the end zone.
If Crompton is like Tee we will be well served.

Yhis is just another stupid ploy by the local media to generate controversy. The guy who should be under center is the player whom the coaches determine to be the best qualified.
Crap like this is what causes the criticism of the Tennessee program. I wish Hamilton had the balls to deny them access to the campus.

c. He could display his extensive knowledge of the game
d. I'd love to see Coach Fulmer make him run laps

I do like knoxsingle's suggestion though.

Vols are predicted to go 6-6, Fulmer will be on the Hot Seat. Everyone will blame the new QB not being experienced, the new OC not ready for the primetime of the SEC. Just go with Crompton, but I believe someone else will surpass him before it's all said and done.

budhron, Who is predicting UT to go 6-6?
drwfocus, earlier in spring practice, a poster on another board said that Stephens had earned a nickname- "Pick Nick". He was throwing alot of INT's.
If I'm not mistaken he's had some INT's in the scrimmages in spite of going mostly against the 2nd and 3rd string D's.

I loved Tee Martin as a QB, but I have to go along with those who called him less than perfectly accurate. In his defense, he did throw the ball down-field a lot. I actually attended the game at SC where he set the completion record. What I mostly remember was that the receivers made several unbelievable catches, stretching and diving in all directions. Generally speaking, Tee could get the ball out there but it was up to the receivers to go get it. He rarely hit them right on the hands or on the numbers. That's why he didn't make it in the NFL, IMHO.
