The postseason begins today for the University of Tennessee women's tennis team.
The Lady Vols are seeded fifth in the SEC tournament and face 12th-seed Mississippi State at 3 p.m. in Auburn, Ala.
Tennessee (13-8, 6-5 SEC) comes to the tournament on a three-match losing streak. Earlier this year, the 24th-ranked Lady Vols beat Mississippi State 5-2 in Starkville.
If UT wins today, next up is fourth-seed Vanderbilt on Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Florida is the No. 1 seed.
UT's Caitlin Whoriskey was named second-team All-SEC on Wednesday.
Player of the year is Fani Chifchievra of Auburn. Michael Hegarty of Arkansas is coach of the year.
Men's Tennis: Thanks to a bye, third-seed Tennessee will be watching today when the SEC tournament begins in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Vols swing into action Friday at 9:30 a.m. against the winner of today's match between sixth-seeded LSU and 11th-seeded Mississippi State.
Georgia, Florida and Ole Miss also received byes.
Other matches today: Auburn vs. Kentucky; South Carolina vs. Alabama; Arkansas vs. Vanderbilt.
Meanwhile it was a double honor for Tennessee's J.P. Smith. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year and one of 12 members to the All-SEC first team. Boris Conkic and Kaden Hensel mad the second team. Conkic, Smith and Matteo Fago were named to All-Freshman team.
Women's Track: Freshman Annie Alexander is the SEC field athlete of the week after a big showing in the Sea Ray Relays.
Alexander won the discus and notched an outdoor school record in the shot put.
Men's Track: The Vols are No. 4 in this week's national poll. Coach Bill Webb will take an abbreviated squad to the Vanderbilt Invitational this weekend.
