A big weekend is at hand for the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team.
No. 9-ranked UT plays host to No. 11-ranked LSU for a three-game series beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader today (TV: Fox Sports Net) at Lee Softball Stadium.
Tennessee (41-8, 11-7 SEC) has a half-game lead over the Tigers (33-12, 11-8) for third place in the SEC standings.
LSU leads the all-time series 18-12, including taking two of three from the Lady Vols last season in Baton Rouge.
UT is coming off a Wednesday night split doubleheader with Ole Miss in Knoxville.
Co-head coach Ralph Weekly held a post-game team meeting after that one to express his displeasure.
Imagine how LSU coach Yvette Girouard feels. The Tigers have lost eight of their past 12 games after getting out to a 29-4 start.
LSU is led by sophomore Rachel Mitchell with her .355 average, 11 doubles, five home runs and 31 RBIs. Erika Sluss (seven HRs) and Tayl'r Hollis (six HRs) provide more power. Junior pitcher Dani Hofer was a first-team All-SEC selection a year ago and is 18-6 this season.
