OAKLAND, Calif. — The Kansas City Royals plan to recall former University of Tennessee right-hander Luke Hochevar from Class AAA Omaha to replace ailing John Bale as the starting pitcher for Sunday's game against Oakland.
Hochevar, 24, was 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three starts at Omaha. He allowed five earned runs and 11 hits in 17 1/3 innings while striking out 12 and walking six. He pitched six shutout innings in his last start Tuesday at Nashville.
