Men tied for fourth in SEC golf; Holmes in second

The Tennessee men's golf team shot a 1-under-par 287 and moved into a tie with South Carolina for fourth place at the SEC championships on Saturday at St. Simons Island, Ga.

UT's David Holmes, a former standout at West High School, shot a 2-under 70 and is second in the individual standings at 142, one stroke behind Alabama's Joseph Sykora. UT's Robin Wingardh (70) is tied for eighth at 144.

The Vols, who are at seven-over 583 for the tournament, were the only team to shoot an under-par round Saturday at the Frederica Golf Club. UT, the defending tournament champion, is five strokes behind leader Alabama.

"Our team has shown a lot of resilience throughout the year being able to come back after a rough start,'' UT coach Jim Kelson said. "We are proud to have put ourselves in a position to defend our title."

Also for UT, Charlie Ford (72) is tied for 26th at 148, Philip Pettitt (75) tied for 31st and Chris Paisely (75) tied for 44th.
